I am so very, very sorry to hear this. What a horrific experience and terrible loss for your friend. I disagree with a previous statement that you shouldnt' send a poem to your friend. Yes she is grieving but even in grief, we love to remember our pets fondly; it helps ease the pain. when I lost my beloved dog, a friend sent me this poem and 4 years later, I still have it memorized and keep it in a frame with my baby's photo.
I hope it helps your friend to heal as well.
I STOOD BY YOUR BED LAST NIGHT
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew,
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night,
God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

That is so sad I can't stand those dogs for that very reason !You can google in a serch term like"poems for pet loss" and see what comes up that is how I found this one,But you might want to do a serch since you know your friend better than any of us !
A Special Gift
They're a very special gift; to be cherished and loved
You're chosen for each other; by God Himself above
It's a match made in heaven; so it can't be wrong
You're tied together by a bond; that's oh so strong
All they'll ever ask from you; is to be loved and fed
And at night make sure they have, fresh water and a bed
In return for so little; the rewards are so great
You'll get a companion for life; with some very special traits
When you are lost; and the end seems so far away
They'll walk by your side; they'll help you find your way
When life gets you down; they can put a smile on your face
As they run you in circles; with their fast pace
You'll share the good with the bad; you'll be happy and sad
And through it all you have a friend; the best you ever had
You're time together; will be special and unique
It will be as priceless to you; as a rare antique
Then before you know it; the day will arrive
When suddenly your life; takes a steep dive
The furry friend who's been with you for all of these years
Has now passed on; and left you in tears
As you sit and wonder; what did I do
Why is this all happening to you
Into each of our lives; a little rain must fall
And you must be strong; to answer the call
Your little one's spirit has flown home on the wings of a dove
To a special place that awaits them; in heaven above
St. Francis will meet them; when they get home
He will take them to a meadow; where they're free to roam
There in the meadows; down by the pond
Your furry friend will remember his loving bond
He'll look into the water; then you apppear
He can see you're frightened; he can feel your fear
Through the bond that still ties you; from heaven above
He looks down upon you; he sends you his love
Because you loved him; and because you care
Whenever you need him; he'll always be there
There in the meadows; they patiently wait for the day
When you will celebrate your life together; each and everyday
Waiting for that day; when you come walking back home
When together for an eternity; through the meadows you'll roam

very sad As a pet owner my self the dogs should be all put down here we go again some people will say blame the owner not the dog or we have always Had them and had no trouble the people who say these things are the ones who should be put down
They never have a problem until it rips a persons head off there are many poems a person could say but only time will get a person over the shock

Dog aggression and human aggression are two totally different things. Just because a dog is dog aggro does not mean it is human aggro. Dog know the difference between other animals and people.
I am very sorry for what happened. But the blame definitely lies in the owners, not the dogs. I feel saddened mostly that the pit bull was owned by such an irresponsible person. It's not the dogs fault, it is the person who set their dog up to fail.

The problem here isn't poetry, bereaved feeling or consoling the person. The problem here is the Pitt Bull! That animal and it's owners should be reported to the Animal Control authorities ASAP.
First it's a dog then a child!
I it in material if the dog belonged to friends or what, it should be put down.

Sorry about your friends loss! If only the people who own Pits were more responsible with their dogs. I own Pits, and have never had a problem out of any of them.
Rainbow Bridge is a wonderfull poem, makes me cry every time I read it.

You don't need a poem. And, you don't need words. NONE! Your friend is in grief. Don't be a 'miserable comforter'. And don't try to help her get over it. Just be there for her. I could not imagine such a tragic loss. Just be there for her, and give her time. Some time alone, and some time with you. But please don't stop being her friend if she seems too much. The pain will go away, but it will change too.

my seven year old daughter was attacked by a pit bull while walking home from school... the dog was loose, she was quick enough to go in the fetal position as the dog ripped her backpack and coat off, one of the neighbours and my son beat the dog off of her, thank god she was ok....i did not phone the police....i went directly to there home and nicely explained that they had ten minutes to do what they had to do with the dog, before i and my family took action... i've never seen it since....

That dog should be euthanized. A pit bull killed his owner in Jacksonville this weekend. She was bathing him in the back yard.
Stay away from pit bulls and keep all of your loved ones away from them. They should be illegal.
Just let her know how sorry you are. There is not too much to say.
