My husband is a soldier and says it's his job. He is in the infantry. His opinion is if you don't want to do it then why did you sign on the dotted line. Most of the guys he works with feel the same way. Canadian citizens should be supportive of our soldiers and stop using the excuse that our role is as peacekeepers. What do you think they do all their training for? To babysit??

Most of the soldiers in Afghanistan are from CFB Petawawa as well as my husband. Many tours have come from here.

He has a point, when you sign up for the Army, no matter what the reason is, you have to expect to be sent to a war zone. Especially since 9/11, there has been so much going on in the world and it is hard to be a soldier. Its a sad fact, but right now no one is safe from war!

I respect that your husband is a soldier and he is doing a good job. But I do not think that Canadian soldiers should be in Afganistan because that regon is NOT worth the time nor the efort. If you look in the passed the Russinas have tried to implament there reforms in the reagon and have faild. This reagon did not embrass comunism just like it will not accept Democracy. Instead Canada should work more closly with the US in Iraq were there is more oil and money to be made. It sounds bad but it is so true because it's all about the money. So no, Agganistan is not worht the time of the day.

There's not much point in building a school or whatever if the Taliban come in the night and burn it down, so I'm supportive. Peacekeeping is for places that have some sort of peace.

There are programs in place for Taliban who want to give up violence and learn a trade etc. If they don't take advantage of them, there's not much point in doing anything but destroying them.

The Canadian infantrymen are in the most threatening element of Afghanistan. Plus there are an excellent form of politicians in the NDP and BLOC that want to tug them out so the Taliban might want to need to persuade them. i imagine the Canadians easily have more desirable helpful armored autos than the individuals.

I think that as long as the Canadian government is willing to support the war on terror, then absolutely they should be in Afghanistan.

Canada is a great ally, and the more international support the better.

Well, I think Canda, Mexico, and USA should unite to form a new army. Our soldiers are falling behind in the war. Well actually, what has USA ever done for Canada? Canada has always been the by stander... The person standing in the middle of the road, not choosing sides. No they should not have to fight this war for us or support us. Its not their job. Don't blame the Americans for starting the war... the Arabs started it over I beleive 800 years ago, I don't feel like explaining myself anymore.

They should be somewhere in this global fight. eventually it will affect all Western peoples, or certain groups would like it to.

Hats off to your husband, I worked with the CF at Base Borden in Ont., in Europe, and the Arctic. Tough troops, & good people all around, civilians as well.

Canadian solders should be in Afghanistan because Canada does the right thing and their solders are there to do the jobs they are trained to do.
