it is cat REM like humans cats dream - they are probably having a lovely dream of finally catching that dratted mouse that usually (in real life) always gets away. i hope understanding that makes it seem less distressing for you - but really a lot of perfectly healthy cats do it and don't seem to be negatively affected by it humans do it too - ever wondered why your bed is so messed up in the morning when you awake when it was so tidy the night before? the time to worry is if it happens to a cat that is awake (not just eyes half open during sleep) and it seems disorientated but what you have described sounds commonplace and perfectly natural it is good that you care enough about your cat to ask such questions tho - that way you can recognise if a problem does strike and get help as best you can

The answer is that she is either dreaming or just getting spasms. Dont you ever just sit there and your finger might twitch??? Thats because its spasming, but it stops and you think nothing of it. My cat when he was a kitten used to look like he was running lying on his side so we assumed that he was dreaming that he was chasing something.

she's dreaming and involuntarily acting it out. just like a dog that barks or growls when sleeping. humans do it too.
