5 HTP is better than the others. The main problem with drugs is side effects. And no one really knows how serious side effects can be. This varies with each people because everyone is unique.

St. John's Wort could be an alternative. But it is not as powerful as 5-htp. By the way 5-htp also helps to fight anxiety and sleep disorders which generally accompany depression.

If you want to learn more about 5-htp, you can visit this website:

Good luck!

5 HTP!! It's been proven to work where synthetic drugs eg prozac, zoloft, wellabutrin, paxil etc have FAILED. Sam E has side effects in some people-horrible nightmares and feelings of suffocation, St. John's Wort is mild compared to 5 htp, and vit b just isn't that effective. So take 2 or 3 100 mg 5htp capsules at bedtime and your depression and anxiety will be a thing of the past within a couple days!!

All of those are the best things to take for depression, depending on your source. The problem with a supplement like that is that most of them are not regulated, so you truly don't know how much of the supplement you're getting. I found the best thing for depression was actually a B-complex. Getting all the necessary vitamin b that I could greatly helped my depression.

Another supplement that has helped many people that I know with clinical, chronic depression is a product called EMPower by True Hope. I have actually taken it, and it's an excellent product. The only thing is that it's expensive. If you have severe depression, I would seriously think about that product. No, I don't sell it, I've only taken it, but I've seen several people (including myself) who have had excellent results.

I think if your depression continues for awhile, you should contact your doctor. Good luck!
