I'm not trying to be a cool dad I just like or love these things. I know you'll have trouble taking this question seriously, but I'd appreciate serious feedback. Do you think I'm strange (young and old alike?)

LOL! Thanks I needed that laugh, but you know parents will never be cool in the eyes of kids unless you have your pants below your a*s*s , sing rap, and smoke weed or do ex. You are a perfect father and tell your kids they are lucky that they have a father that's there and not in jail or on drugs.

I know lot's of guys who like to cook and watch cooking shows - I mean look at that guy who always says BAM! And that other guy Alton Brown - he's not gay. Lot's of guys are artist - like Monet, Van Gogh, Devinci - they weren't gay. Fashion tv - well that's a toss up. I'm just kidding. It's good to stay up on current fashion trends (to some degree) if you don't want to look dated and out of style. And as far as todays music goes - that's great. I don't know how people your age can listen to oldies but goodies for the last 30 years anyway - seems like it would get old... Creative people are kinda weird and eccentric anyway. Start wearing weird hats and textured scarves. Get into it. You only live once.

My dad is almost 47, and he too likes cullinary shows and pop culture music, but that does not mean he is "gay" nor is he strange. If you enjoy these things, then your children should know its your interests and hobbies, and nothing is "gay" about it. If your children feel awkward listening to the same music as their dad, then talk to them. You are not strange, different people like different things. So enjoy watching those fashion TV shows and American Idol and just be yourself and be proud of it.

You are not strange at all! Tons of straight guys watch Queer Eye, and there's even the term metrosexual for guys who do gay grooming tips and are sophisticated but aren't gay. If you're not gay, and not interested in experimenting, their questions can be simply answered with a "no." And as the good dad that you are, use this time to educate your children on why it isn't cool to stereotype gay men, and what gay men go through because of bigotry. Make it a teaching moment!

Of course not, everyone likes different things, and if you like to keep up with the latest music and fashion, it means you are not becoming a boring old stick in the mud. Keep doing it. Do your children know that being gay=no children??

About a month ago I was standing in the kitchen cooking dinner, wearing a pair of bright-red jersey shorts and a T-shirt. My wife was on the computer in the office (next to the kitchen), and in between discussing what kind of fabric she wanted to buy for her next quilt project (I'm really hooked on Indonesian batik for my designs), I found myself belting out Broadway show tunes (specifically, it was "Rahad Locum" from "Kismet.")

I started to laugh, and she looked at me.

"You know," I said, "sometimes even *I* have trouble believing I'm not gay."

She just gave me that smile and said, "You're not. I'm sure of THAT."

So I'm afraid you ARE strange, but it sounds like you'd be welcome in my house any day. We're ALL strange here...

Meh, my old man likes a lot of the same music I like and he's 50. He's also trying to learn to cook as well. I dont see the big deal with it. If you like doing it, more power to you, and keep doing it.

The rolls which older males are supposed to play in our society are antiquated, and in need of a change. Keep doing what you're doing, and ignore the narrowminded detractors.

Absolutely not! These are common stereotypes today and you must learn that men who enjoy art, cooking, and fashion are not necessarily gay.
