Because I have had friends who have been homeless and I've come close to it myself. I usually don't give cash tho, especially as I have very little myself. I try to ask if there is anything they need and try to find it for them...blankets, deodorant, etc.

When I willingly give to a fellow human who is in need, I am motivated by love. I know of some who give out of guilt, or are compeled by others who are very persuasive. No matter what the motivation, however, it is never wrong to be generous! Even if the "needy" person is not truly in need, or is being deceptive, it is the condition of your heart that matters. Yet, understand, giving to those in need is in no way going to buy you favor with God. Christ has already given you favor with God when He saw your need, and filled it on the cross, finalizing the deal when He walked out of the tomb. His love working though us humans is an amazing wonder! If you feel the urge to give a meal or other practical help to another, don't pass up the opportunity! So many people complain about their own lot in life, and could be so encouraged if they would find a person in need and meet it! So, back to your question, the answer is "love in action". Thanks for a great question! Becky

I do not always have it to give but if I do and I feel they need it....I always ask them to call a relative/friend to let them know they are still alive. It would be hard know someone in your family is living on the streets by choice or their condition. I have seen lots of homeless and they are not always drunks- it would not take much for anyone of us to end up there. Also we do have a responsibility to take care of those that can not take care of themselves...we always think of babes and children even challenged individuals but almost never homeless...the new epidemic of America!

Sometimes they fool me and I think, they really need it. The truth is that they make as much as $200 or more a day if they're pitiful enough. I'm a sucker I guess, but some days they don't get a dime......cause it's like that and that's the way it is

Depends. If I choose to give money to someone who hasn't approached me and asked its because I feel guilty that I cant do more for them. But..if they come up with a ridiculous story and keep nagging the crap outta me...its to get rid of them!

Because I fell bad that their life circumstances are so bad that they ended up on the street while I have a bed to sleep in every night.

Mostly pity. Or guilt that I was given a break and they didn't.
The belief, warranted or not, that a good deed will come back to you.
Or just having a heart, I guess.
