Only a keen golfer could enjoy televised golf.
One of the attractions is watching people play shots that you can only dream of.
Another "exciting" part of the televised game is on the final day when the nerves kick in.
Players can have a lead and start hitting bad shots, missing short putts, put balls in the water etc.
Even someone with a large lead is not home and dry with a few holes to play (unless its Tiger etc.)
It is also a nice, long buzz to have a bet on the winner and watch him perform over 4 days, unlike a football bet which lasts under 2 hours.
bottom line is that golf is insanely boring to non-golfers but highly entertaining to golfers (hence its popularity as a televised sport)
You really have to get it to get it, a bit like chess.
Very much a thinking mans sport.
Most difficult sport in the world to learn and do well, no doubt.
Just when you shoot a great score and think you have got to being a good golfer, disaster!! Golf bites back and you play your next round like a learner- you can't hit the ball right!!!
Many tactics and "game-plans"
many decisions e.g choice of clubs
One more thing when you get the golf bug it is like a disease, more addictive than Coke.

You've got to be self-content first before watching paint dry or grass grow, same with golfing. Golf becomes a sport in your context once you try walk 5 miles, carrying a piece of iron stick and swing it about 200 times.

If you don't like golf why are you in this forum. I would think you would be in baseball, which is as boring as watching paint dry on growing grass, or soccer which is the stupidest sport ever invented, or maybe a bunch of overpaid, whining crybabies bouncing a basketball up and down the floor. Different strokes for different folks, baby. For instance, I don't like you, but I'm sure your parents do.........they do, don't they?

Doesn't this sound like baseball? It's only pastime? C'mon. If you don't know how to play or even tried playing, maybe you shouldn't be watching! It takes a lot of time, effort, and practice to learn golf. It also takes patience, couse management, brains, and a lot of mental toughness. A round of golf during a tournament can be mentally exhausting.

I thought the same untill I started playing. It helps you appreciate how good these guys actually are.
Same goes for any sports really, what about all these people complaining about 22 men chasing after a bag of wind? They haven't kicked a football in their life and therefore can't appreciate the game.

It is not a bunch of people walking in a park, it should be golfers walking on the golf course. It is not a stick, it is a golf club.It is not a ball, it is a golf balls. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I think the way the announcers talk and relay the game on tv has alot to do with it. They talk so low and calm and when something great happens they don't even get loud really. People don't cheer, they just clap. It's a very unenthusiastic game.

Why spend the time chasing the ball round the course, sometimes losing it in the water, when you can just keep hold of it?

Roosterman, golf is like a zit: it's really hard to care when someone else is dealing with it but when it's you, it's all that matters.
