I am graduating in Dec. with a degree in Elem. Ed. I really like kids, I KNOW I could be a good teacher, have had tons of experience, and have spent the past 5 yrs of my life working for it. However, I don't know if it's what I want to do at THIS time in my life. AHH!!!

My fiance and I are getting married next year and his job will easily support us. Don't get me wrong, I WANT to work, I just don't know if teaching is right for me at this point in my life. I have thought about doing something with weddings, but I haven't had any experience at it, other than planning my own.

My mom is a teacher (the biggest reason that I decided to become one). I don't want to disappoint my family because they have thought I was going to be a teacher all along, but I do want to do what's right for me in my life.

I feel like I'm back to freshman year, not knowing what I want to do. How do I decide what's right for me? Anyone ever experienced anything similar?

Stories would be great!!

I have brought it up to my mom and she was somewhat disappointed to find out that I was even thinking about doing something else. I am so confused right now. I really don't know what to do.

First of all do not do anything for your family, always do it for yourself. I am a 12th grade teacher and I never thought I would teach kids. To be honest, I didn't even like kids.

One day at the school I am at now, I was working in the office and one of our teachers called in sick. The principal ask me to go into the class and I was like oh no. However, I ended up going and that day completely changed my life. I never thought teaching would be for me, but I promise when you go into your class and your students are waiting to see if your here it is a different feeling. The thing I love most about teaching is teaching something new the kids have never experienced.

I love teaching something and they come back the next day having heard something about what was taught the previous day. They are excited to learn and it make me excited to teach.

What I would say to you is try it out that way if you do not like it at least you gave it a try. And when you try give it your all so you will not have any questions.

GOOD LUCK!

Well I would look at the perks of the job. Like you get the whole summer off and still get paid. The down side is that you have to deal with loud and problem children the whole year. A lot of the kids no days aren't like they used to be. If you do weddings you will be so busy during the summer and spring you may not get to take that very needed vacation. But you get to have fun helping others plan their weddings. I am in the same boat as you though, I have no idea what I want to do with my future...

Some times we parents would like for our children to do what we like. the thing is that when the children don't like what the parents suggested for them to do, they could turn bitter and very unhappy.

Talk to your family and tell them you are not sure of what you want to do yet. Communication is the best way to go about it.

You'll probably need sometime off before you decide what you want to do. Your honeymoon might be a good start to start relaxing and unwinding. Or just take a long nice vacation after your graduation.

Remember this though; after your marriage, is not mom and dad anymore, is husband and wife, and you are going to be making plans with your husband, not with monm and dad.

You got a good heart, I can tell.

Congratulations and

May God Bless you and your marriage.
