We can start by reducing vehicle emissions and minimizing the pollutants spewed into the air from smoke-belching factories. Then we can get more environmentally-conscious and begin saving energy, and REturning, REusing, and REcycing everything that's not quickly biodegradable. As stewards of this planet, we've done a terrible job. Most of us don't even recognize the fragile ecological balance between man, plants, and animals that must be protected and preserved if we all are to exist as Nature (or an evolutionary 'big bang' process, or an intelligent designed, or God) intended.
We humans think we're the most intelligent, superior species on this Earth, yet we're the ones that WASTE natural resources, squander the Earth's bounty, and don't give a damn about the future of this world. -RKO-

A sure fire way that no one can dispute is to increase efficiency in everything that you do. Do not confuse efficiency with doing less. It's about doing more of what you do with less of what you use. If everyone only used high-efficiency lightbulbs, we can stop importing oil from Venezuela. Drive the smallest car needed for the task at hand. No need to drive the SUV or minivan just to buy stamps at the post office. Don't leave the TV on when you aren't watching or listening to it. Keep up with the latest in technology so you work smarter not harder.

they don't need to start doing anything; or "fight" anything
they just need to stop using, promoting and investing in costly, unhealthy lifestyles.
eg if nations only invested as much in wepons and war as they do in peace that would save huge amount of pollution.
trying to fight global warming would be like fighting a hurricane. Hard sollutions won't work, as New Orleans discovered; letting the coastal margins adapt and expand would have mitigated the effect. Study Tai Chi & tao te ching, especially the translation by Ursula Le Guin

conserve
minimize use of electricity, gas and oil. Each is a huge contributor to CO2 and warming.
Buy an energy efficient car, or better yet, no car.
Cut the lawn with a push mower, not gas.
you get the idea.

Practice less pollutant activities. Drive less and drive more fuel efficient cars. If you live in a place where your power comes from burning coal, use less power. Turn off your lights when you are out. In the summer, turn the thermostat up a few degrees and in the winter down.
