Unfortunately, there would probably be a lot more unhappy animals. The laws of supply and demand drive that business. Be the change you want to see in the world and adopt a shelter pet!

I would modify this to say...irresponsible breeders. Without great breeders, we wouldnt have great dogs BUT if I would hazard a guess, I would say that most irresponsible breeders would adopt strays (purebreds or ones they could pass off as purebreds) that they could turn around and breed and make more money on or we would be seeing alot of poor strays that breeder's adopted being euthanized or just coming up missing....think dropped off on a country road...:( In the PERFECT world...it would deter their breeding anymore pups at all! Keep in mind I am referring to irresponsible breeders :)

Why should I be punished because so many people are either to stupid or to uncaring to take care of their animals? Why does everyone rail against the PB breeders but no one complains about irresponible owners who allow their dogs to breed indescriminately. How about making the source of most of the unwanted crossbreed puppies keep or find homes for all of them?
It is not MY puppies in the shelters, nor are they from any of the many other breeders I know. They come from stupid and irresponsible pet owners, let THEM clean up their own mess.

We would have a lot of responsible breeder on our hands, that's what would happen. I stongly support the idea that everyone who breeds dogs should also rescue dogs as a prerequisite. I you love your breed enough to reproduce it then you should love your breed enough to be a caretaker for those in need.

Better question: What would happen if dog breeders had to volunteer at a shelter and put to sleep a puppy for every one they bred.
