How old do you have to be to get into the army WITH parental consent, dont want to go to college going to be a barber. How old do you have to be to get into the army with parental consesnt how do they feel about highschool drop outs. Should i go for 2 or 4 years, its not a "i wanna serve my country", thing as much as i am patriotic, i need money, benefits, a ged, and kinda wanna buffing up which i can do all of those in the army. Any advice would be nice other than "stay in school". Oh and i have no problem taking orders or shaving my head.

Even though you said not to offer the option, as a former Army recruiter, I must advise you to stay in high school and graduate. Even with a GED, the opportunities are limited. There are fewer spaces for those who fail to graduate, as the Army (and most of the other services) look at graduation as you finishing what you started. If you fail to graduate, they are concerned that is part of your character.

Your best bet is to talk with a local recruiter for what is available in your case. They will have the latest pertinent regulations.

As to how old you can be with parental consent, 17 is the minimum.

The military is NOT an alternate form of Welfare. the militaray will NOT help you get a GED.

In order to join at 17, you must have parental permission AND a HS diploma. A GED will not only hinder your choices available, you will have to score higher on the ASVAB, and there are far fewer slots available for GED holders.

Being a HS dropout shows the military that you are unable to finish something, that you are undisciplined, and unwilling to play by the rules. In other words.. a less than desirable candidate. Today's Military is High Tech and VERY well educated.

And what happens if the job you want you are either not qualified for or is not open?

You should get your high school diploma and then join the military. The college and education they have to offer is awesome.
You will find that you have far more jobs to chose from with a high school diploma. You have to be 17. And don't listen to the people who tell you not to join. I think you are brave and it's definatly not something to look down upon, no matter what war status the country is in. I was in the Navy for almost 7 years and I don't regret one BIT serving my country. And by the way, the Navy does have barbers, they are called Ships Servicemen, they run the stores on the ship, they cut hair, and do other sorts of logistical work. Might be something you'd be interested in. :)

you might as well stay in high school. If you get a GED you still cant join the Army unless you have 15 college credits. So with that said you might want to finish school. This way you can get into the military no problem and then if the whole barder thing dont work out you still have a diploma.

Now as far as why you are joining. You doing it for all the wrong reasons. If you come in for those reasons you are not going to be happy with your career and you will not make it.

If you enlist without at least a GED, then your choices of MOS (jobs) is going to be very, very limited. Even if you do well on your ASVAB.

But, after looking at your reasons for joining, I would just advise you to stay at home. I can tell your heart is not in it, and most likely after a few hard days you are going to want to go home. And after a few months of a lot of wasted tax payers dollars that will happen.

But if you really want to try....you can do all the prelim paperwork when you are 17, but you wont ship until you are 18.

You can join the army at 17 with parents permission but you will need to get your GED before they will let you join and I think you have to join for at least 4 years and if you join be ready to get sent to the sandbox cause that is what you are going to do when you finish bootcamp

DONOT DROP OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, are you crazy, you are talking about the rest of your life. The army will not take you unless you have a Diploma, and if they happen to do you will be very limited on your job, infantry is pretty much what you will get. You will not be able to do much with your life, and why do you want to be a barber? I seriously think you are trying to take the easy way out on life.

I know some branches want you to finish high school or you can't join. You have to be 18 to join without your parents. I'm pretty sure now all branches it is a 4 year deal now.

Hey there.....you are NOT speaking using.......thes, thems, & dooes (slang!) therefore I will assume you are an intelligent person! Really sounds like you are the type of young person who could really make it big in today's world! Check out all the new technology and such great opportunites open to you.......PLEASE NOT THE MILITARY!! I just don't want to see another 18/19 yr. old brought home draped with a flag!
Yep! going to say it......STAY IN SCHOOL - ASK FOR ASSISTANCE - ATTEND COLLEGE (if even for two years!)
Good Luck.......today's world is kinda scary but there are soooo many opportunities for youngsters......just remember WHERE THERE'S A WILL - THERE IS A WAY!
p.s........17 yrs. old with parental consent!
