Why do people insist on stopping on a off ramp instead of merging into traffic? Clearly there are no yeild or stop signs around.

I agree with you 100%.
It is dangerous and generally illegal except for states and situations with short ramps. Usually they are marked with yield signs.
Without matching your speed, you run a major risk of accident. It is usually done by old ladies and people withut driving experience, afraid that speeding up will endanger them
Speed doesn't cause accidents, differences in speed causes accidents. If two cars are going 55 and touch, they may not even dent. If one is 55 and one is 5, then the 50 mph difference will be an airbag event.

Oh, thats's a big no-no. They do it around here, too and it's so dangerous. When I lived in Dallas there was this horrible expressway with 18" entrance ramps. Maybe they were a little longer than that, but the point is they were too dang short. To make matters worse they actually had stop signs at the bottom. Oncoming traffic was non-stop with average speeds of 75 mph. It would have been nice if there was a gigantic rubber band to propel your car out into the flow. No one stopped for the dumb sign - it meant certain death to do so. You just had to pick up speed and go for it. Now I live in a city with less traffic and people stop to make turns or to change lanes. Ahhhh!!

I'd like to think they're unfamilar with the particular off ramp and chose to err on the side of caution. However, it's a dangerous violation. Drive defensively!

they are ignorant and dont know how to drive smoothly to keep from making traffic build up.I wish they taught a little bit more in drivers ed
