As a veteran of her Majesty's Armed Forces and having served my country for 13 years, my view is that unless you have been there, unless you have stepped up to the plate, then you have no right to an opinion and any that you do have is invalid. I am a firm believer in the fact that opinion without education is merely supposition. If however, you have served then I'd like to know what YOUR opinion is... my personal opinion is that the British Armed Forces was the best thing that ever happened to me. To be a member one of the worlds most elite fighting forces is something to be truly proud of.

The rank and file are the best trained disciplined, highly motivated
men and women in any of the european and all its allied military services it serves and operates with. Testiment to this unequivabley awarded to them by all allied and foreign services
Unfortunately, as expressed many, many times in the past by countless subscribers to Answers & Questions, the Brits officer corps is utterly pathetic - it being so far removed from the rank and file! Down thru centuries their officer corpes has continued to live in a world so far removed from the rank and file it can only be defined as criminal! Go today to any Army, Airforce or Naval base and instantly the inherent and practiced divisions are apparent. In messing, accomodation, travel, treatment and/or whatever, its still the same disgraceful mode of all round outdated discrimination and callous behaviour. A hand down from the old colonial empire days! Its hard to determine which of the services is the main offender, certainly the Royal Navy is the most arrogant officer corps of the lot! And I would think the RAF is a very close second. The Army, well their officer corps is absolute crapp and in 400 + years has bungled almost every job the've been given. Converesly, what modern day force continues with discriminating awards i.e. a coss or whatever if your officer - but only a medal if your a ranker? When is the Gov't going to dispense with such crap and why has not the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew (an ex serving veteran and respected by many ex serviceman) never intervened to correct it! Why?

I view them as a clever, expert stress with coaching on par with our very own. the only actual earnings we've over the British defense force is length (we are a bigger usa), and equipment (we spend so plenty additional money on our defense force than the British do). the customary opinion of those I even have served with interior the US defense force is the same.

Probably the best and most disciplined and professional army in the world today. It has a fighting tradition that stretches all the way back for at least a 1000 years. It has never fail to recognise and give due respect to a good warrior whether in victory or defeat (The inclusion of the Gurkhas in the British Army is one such event).

The British Armed Forces are the most experienced and the best trained in the world, although Tony Blair keeps cutting back(which he needs to stop doing)Britain still has possibly the second best military and if not second then first.

Have not served with the British Forces, but have strong bonds. I think that till the downsizing started with all these amalgamations etc. the Brits were the best but have lost some of the teeth now. Hope I am wrong.

Man per man I think they are as good as anyone. On the whole while they do have some good equipment, they lack the logistical capability and manpower to project power very far off their Island.
In the modern world other than Americans the British seem to be the only ones really willing to fight.

A powerful force. The United States is ever so grateful to have such brave allies to fight along side her. We are so lucky to have each other as allies, if it wasn't for both of our countries, the world would not be as safe and protected as it is today. From us in the United States to those of you in the United Kingdom, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As a U.S. Army veteran, having met with my peers from the Royal Military Police and R.A.F. Police, I must say that they have my utmost respect and admiration. I have not had the privilege of meeting with others, but the performance of the British Army in Iraq has been stellar.

Having served with them in a few different arenas....one word sums it up. DISCIPLINED.
It is hard to say which special operations group is better than another. With the new face of war, they are all classified as unconventional, but the SAS and Brits altogether are a classy, disciplined bunch.
