How old are you people answering this question. I am 50 years old and when I was a teenage my mother could not stop me from doing what I wanted to do. If I take you to school everyday and you skip the minute I leave it that a parents fault? If I make sure you are in bed at 10 and at 11 you sneak out and go do something stupid is that the parents fault? Parents don't always let their children run wild, sometimes the child does it on their own. If I tell you not to go steal and car and you do it anyway how does that make the parent responsible?? Every child has their own personality and some do things regardless of what their parents try to stop them from doing. I had one that did just that. I raised 3 and one just never wanted to listen. He is now in prison and doing time for alot of things that caught up with him but that doesn't make me to blame or responsible.

Mrs Nice sighs and comments:
Should parents be held legally responsible for the actions of their children?
Absolutely if the children are still in the house and are still minors!!!
One thing that irritates Mrs Nice to no end is a parent who says "I just don't know what to do about Johnny! He is so wild!".
Well, lets start with boundaries and consequences!
Additionally, most children who get into serious trouble....have given their parents warning signs before hand. If they didn't pick up on them or turned their head then they are just as responsible as the child!
Sincerely,
Mrs Nice

Parents should be legally responsible for the actions of their children to a degree. I think it depends on the age of a child.

it depends because sometimes the parents are great but the kids are totally rotten and they take it upon themselves to go ahead and do things they know r wrong. so at some point, kids need to be responsible for their own actions whether they're over 18 or not regardless of the kind of parents they have. if u're old enough to know that what u're doing is wrong, then u're old enough to face the consequences. bad parenting is something invented by lawyers to get a judge to feel sorry for and either acquit their client or hand down a lesser sentence.

could the determine of a 17 365 days old who sneaks out of the abode, is going to a social gathering, gets under the effect of alcohol, drives under the effect of alcohol and finally ends up injuring or killing somebody be held legally to blame for that youngster's movements? From a criminal perspective, that youngster is a minor, however the mummy and dad won't be able to realistically be held to blame for the movements of a teenager of that age. you could no longer administration the movements of yet somebody else, and at the same time as mum and dad are meant to instruct their little ones suited habit, they are able to't administration what the youngster does while they (the mummy and dad) are not cutting-edge. What with reference to the shooters at any of those college massacres? could their mum and dad be seen morally and legally to blame for those deaths? there is rather an age the place little ones can tell the version between remarkable and incorrect, and between morally suited and unacceptable habit. it rather is not actual attempting to declare a determine is to blame for each action of their toddler from beginning to 18.

Parents are to guide and make their children good respectable citizens. Once the child is of their own mind and rebels against his parents, and is not able to be controlled. The child willbe held accountable. Even if they murder someone at the age of 12 as has happened.

Yes they should. That is punishment for not educating your own off spring.
It is the parents responsibility to raise the child right, not TV, not a GameBoy and it is not the responsibility of the educational system to teach kids right from wrong.
It all stems from home.
