Go to sleep; it is not a big deal. It'll take 60 to 90 minutes and the psychiatrist will mostly interview you. It is not a big deal and don't worry!

Psychiatric evaluations may be nerve-wracking if you are uncertain as to what to expect. Many people feel a sense of relief because they are taking the first step toward solving a major problem in their life. The evaluator is not there to judge you or to harm you in anyway. The evaluator is there to figure out what specific problems ail you so you can get the best treatment possible. Evaluators have listened to hundreds of people describe major illnesses, so even though some people are embarrassed to be suffering from an illness, it won't be anything surprising or unusual to the evaluator. The evaluator will ask you a lot of questions or he/she will have you talk about your life. You will want to be as honest and as insightful as possible. Evaluators in general are empathetic people who are there to help you. Other than some educational training and a strong interest in helping people, evaluators are people just like everyone else. Evaluators suffer from mental illness at the same rates as the common population.

If you think this might reduce your stress, you could write a few pages about what is going on at this point in your life to make you seek evaluation.

I'm not even going to ask what you did to get a psychiatric evaluation, so I'm just going to enlighten you as to what they do. They play mind games, ask a ton of question ...don't worry it's not a pass or fail type of thing. Then they take all this data and put you into a category such as normal, depressed, skitzophrenic, suicidal, etc. Don't even try to falsify your answers because they know and they'll evaluate on that. All you have to do is show up and be yourself.

.you're going Tuesday for it? ok... it's just a meeting, where psychiatric doctor will ask you how you feel about this and that. It's ok...not to worry about it. Then the doctor will put his 'findings' (opinions about you) down in a written report. You have a right to see that!...and to have your guardian (if you have one) see it. Remember this...IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE REPORT...ASK FOR A DIFFERENT DOCTOR TO GIVE YOU ANOTHER EVALUATION! Every doctor has his own opinions, and what one thinks about you---doesn't mean it is right. Get another 'opinion'. I'd get THREE.
Most importantly sweetie, the evaluation you are going to tuesday...is totally painless. it might be that you'll feel like getting upset about his questions. but don't let yourself get upset. Just answer his or her questions and wait to see their report.
Blessings to you too!

Don't worry about it. Basically you will sit down and talk to someone. You get to talk and let them know what is going on and they will ask you a lot of questions.

Make sure you have your affairs in order. Bring some toilitries (toothbrush, etc.) You're going to be staying a while, dude. I hope they treat you okay. Don't fight them when they come for you. It only makes it worse.
