Its not as simple as just doing ab work. There are three main factors which ad to poor ab development, which must be addressed. First, muscle tone - you must work the abs on a regular basis. Since there are dozens and dozens of ab moves and machines, I won't go into them here. Just pick a few you like, and do them. You can even change up, from time to time. The next factor is sub-cutaneous fat, which is found just below the skin, between it and the muscle layer. Dieting is the only way to get rid of this problem. Also, keep in mind, there's no such thing as "spot" reduction. In other words, if you have excess fat around your abs and waist, you also have a fat problem in general, all over your body. More of it just seems to accumulate around the middle, in most people. The third, and final factor is the abdominal cavity itself. If you've been a big eater, you probably have a large, rather distended stomach, and large intestine. Outside of any other medical concerns, this usually results from gorging oneself on very large meals, which tends to distend, or enlarge the digestive tract. The best way to tackle that problem goes hand in hand with dieting - namely, eating smaller meals, maybe 5 a day, instead of 3 big gut busters.
