I've been feeding my cat Eukanuba, which isn't bad i guess, but I've read it isn't exactly that healthy either. I'm looking for something thats close to the price of Eukanuba & can be bought at a pet store.

Does anyone else have any more info on Eagle Pak? This sounds like the best option so far and $15 isn't bad, considering I'm spending close to $20 on Eukanuba. Perhaps the pet store I go to is overpriced? Oh and 2 other cat foods I've been looking into are Castor & Pollux, as well as Wellness cat food. I've heard both are good. Does anyone have any personal experience or info on these 2 as well?

Okay PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE OTHER POSTINGS.

Eukanuba is not a good food, neither is Science Diet, Purina, Whiskas, Friskies, Iams, and so on. These foods are all garbage.

The HEALTHIEST pet food for your cat is Innova. You will NOT find another food that is of the same high quality, for the same price, made but such a consitent, reputable company.

Let me show you the ingredients of some of the foods that people are suggesting you feed and then I will show you Innova. IF you are really looking for the best food then you really need to switch to Innova.

Okay here are some other foods:

Eukanuba Chicken and Rice:
-CHICKEN (good)
-CHICKEN LIVER (liver should not be used in pet foods as it contains toxins from the animal)
-CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL (this is the feet, feathers, organs, beeks, etc of the bird....no meat, no nutrition and are oftern preserved with cancer causing chemical preservatives)
-BREWERS RICE (this is just a part of the rice and has no nutrition, the should use whole brown rice)
-CHICKEN BY-PRODCUTS (same as above, leftovers not fit for humans)
-FISH MEAL (why do they not list the type of fish, what is the company hiding?)
-CORN GRITS (Corn should never be in pet foods. They can't digest it so it is just a cheap filler)
-DRIED BEET PULP (cheap filler like corn)
-DRIED EGG PRODUCT (this is the egg shells and undeveloped eggs not fit for human consumption)

Purina One Natural Blends (their "high" end food):
-CHICKEN
-CORN GLUTEN MEAL (corn should never be in pet foods, this is just the starch left over after corn has been processed)
-POULTRY BY-PRODUCT MEAL (why are they not telling us if it chicken or turkey, etc. It's because they don't know. This is the beeks, feet, feathers, etc)
-OAT MEAL (good)
-BROWN RICE (good)
-WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT (wheat should not be in pet foods)
-ANIMAL FAT (this could be ANY type of animal fat including dog, cat, roadkill, letfover restaurant grease, etc. Whatever is sent to the rendering plant)
-WHEAT GLUTEN (no wheat)
-WHOLE GRAIN CORN (no corn)
-DRIED BEET PULP (no beet)
-SALT (Salt should NEVER be in pet foods)

Science Diet Adult:
-CHICKEN BY-PRODCUT MEAL (same)
-GROUND WHOLE GRAIN CORN (same)
-BREWERS RICE (same)
-PORK FAT (cats can't digest pork so this is a waste)
-CORN GLUTEN MEAL (same)
-CHICKEN LIVER FLAVOUR (no nutrition)
-SALT (same)

Iams Adult Chicken:
-CHICKEN (good)
-CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL (same)
-CORN GRITS (same)
-CORN MEAL (same)
-CHICKEN FAT(same)
-FISH MEAL (same)
-DRIED BEET PULP (same)
-DRIED EGG PRODUCT (same)

So, these foods ALL contain disgusting, unhealthy ingredients that are killing your pets - by-products preserved with chemicals, fillers, salt, etc.

NOW look at Innova EVO Cat which is the Healthiest Cat food on the Market.

Turkey
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Herring Meal
Potatoes
Chicken Fat
Egg
Turkey Meal
Natural Flavors
Apples
Carrots
Tomatoes
Cottage Cheese
Dried Chicory Root
Taurine
Herring Oil
Rosemary Extract
Vitamins/Minerals
Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms

Innova uses ONLY whole, fresh, human grade ingredients. The difference is obvious when it comes to quality. So, if you are even considering switching to one of the above foods, you really aren't serious about finding the healthiest pet food.

Oh, and just for comparison sake, where I live a 6.6lb bag of Innova Evo would sell for about $20 while Eukanuba, Science Diet, and Purina go for about $20-$30.

The price difference comes from the fact that the majority of the money you pay for those cheaper end foods goes to their marketing campaigns so they can brainwash everyone into buying their foods. So, just be wary of what companies you give your money to.

Hi there... a few individuals posted excellent premium foods ideas, however these are much more expensive than the Eukanuba product, which may not what you can afford if this is why you asked the question. One of the best thing to consider when shopping for a better quality brand is to look to avoid the ingredient corn meal or corn, which Eukanuba has too. So if your goal is to give your cat healthy food, but to find a reasonably affordable and healthy food product try Royal Caninn. It is not as expensive as the other brands everyone mentioned so this may be an affordable option to consider and is at least much healthier than Eukanuba, Purina, Science Diet, Iams, etc. If you can afford to feed your cat the premium brands listed they would be even better.

I'll also include a weblink below that explains the pet food trade and why it has been duping the public about proper healthy nutrition.

Eukanuba is a great diet but you can also try Science Diet or Purina Pro Plan or Iams also made by Purina. You can't go wrong with Purina. With cat and dog food you get what you pay for, so your on the right track. As long as the bag reads as a balanced diet there is no need to add or supplement the food. Everything that your pet needs has been put in the diet. You can also ask your vet next time you go in what his opinion is.

I feed my cat Eagle Pak formula for Less-Active/Indoor cats. It doesn't have a lot of filler in it, which is what a lot of the pet foods available at "superstores" have in them. Eukanuba is better than many of those pet foods, but the problem is that they add the "filler" which is usually cornmeal and chicken fat. Neither of these things is particularly good for your feline. The only problem with Eagle Pak is it is probably out of your price range. A medium-sized bag at my local pet store is around $15.00. However, if you could see my cat, you'd go right out and buy it for him even if it means you'll eat ketchup sandwiches for a while. His coat is shiny, he's very active, healthy, and happy. My pets usually a) eat before I do, and b) eat the best I can give them. Because they can't go out and find food on their own they're dependent on us to give them the proper nutrition that ensures them a long and healthy life.

Eagle Pak can usually be found at a locally owned pet store, or feed store. If they don't carry it, ask them if they will order it for you. Usually they will at no charge. My pet store, Buckles, carries many different varieties, including their formulas for cats with sensitive stomachs, mature cats, and a bar-none kitten food that I've raised a bunch of kittens on. Every one of them got comments on how healthy and lively they were.

If you're not willing to spend the money, don't expect to get much better cat food at the same price as your Eukanuba. Pet care is expensive. The reason they can sell it so cheap is they put so many of those fillers in their food. Your best bet is to look at the ingredients of all the pet food at your local store. The ones that list corn, cornmeal, chicken fat, or processed chicken material/byproduct first or near the beginning of the list of ingredients are the ones you want to stay away from. That stuff only makes your kitties overweight and sluggish. Good luck finding good food for your fuzzball. I appreciate the fact that you care enough about your pets to worry about getting the right nutritive balance for them.

Vets get very little if any nutritional training. Don`t listen to anything the vet says nutrition-wise. Iams, Purina, and Science Diet all say that it is complete and balanced, but they are all crap foods that are just about as nutritious as the bag they come in. Heck, even BENEFUL claims to be complete and balanced nutrition...LMAO!

My favorite food to feed is Nutro Natural Choice. It has no by-products, fillers, and cancer causing chemical preservatives such as BHA and BHT.

I don;t have a cat I have a dog but nutrition is nutrition. I find the best place to get healthy food for your pet is at Global. They range from Science diet to raw food (which is what i feed my dog). Iams does animal testing on their foods. Why would anyone love loves animals want to used a product that is tested on them?

The first 5 ingredients on the back should have no listing of "by products". PRISM is a new food which is good. SOLID GOLD is an excellent food along with EAGLE PACK.

Nutro is a good food with natural digestable ingredients with a wide variety of formulas based on the pets needs. My cat was shedding like crazy and lacked shine to his coat. After a couple months on this food he looks great, there is less shedding and less mess in his litter box.
