and the breed is new to me. So if you have one let me know about your dog, what funny things it does or if its smart? Also would you own another one? THanks

We had one a fews years back. She was busy, smart and took a lot of attention. They are work dogs and have to have a job to do. Ours liked to throw her dish around and toys were everywhere like a 2 year old. She was excellent with kids and our other 5 dogs. I do rescue work so we had lots of dogs at the time. She loved the kids wadding pool, she would do laps (circles) around the pool with her nose in the water. Terrified of Frogs! We eventually had to find her another home that had room for her to run.

Huskys are very hard to handle. I know from experience. They need lots of attention. They need two to three walks a day and you cant leave the gate open for one second. Husky males like wander off . Not because they dont like you but because they want to see whats out there. Thats why they need walks so they will be satisfied. Also i recommend taking different routes every day so hes not tempted. Even if you take him on walks you still need to keep the gate closed when you are not looking. Good luck . Huskys are very playful and cute dogs but they need you to play with and lots of love and attention.

I use to have a husky, her name was Chivas, a very smart dog, but would not stay in a fenced in yard, we would call her Houdini, we didn't know how she was getting out. One day we saw how she was getting out, she climbed the fence and run down to the creek for a swim.
so we got her a pool, but she preferred the creek. I sold her because I was afraid she would get hit by a car. No, I would not own another because of the climate in the south. They are wonderful dogs though.

Huskies are a beautiful breed with a lot of energy. They love to work and have things to do. A brief walk daily is not enough for them.
Try joining a Husky or Dog forum and chatting to some people about their favourite breed :-)

I love Huskies! I had one growing up. His name was Necola and he was the best dog ever. He was actually born the same month and year that I was! He was the smartest and most loyal dog I have known. Huskies do LOVE to run, so make sure yours has a place to let loose! They are very protective also, they won't harm others unless you are threatened, but they will bark!
They make great companions, congratulations to you!
Necola passed away when we were 12. He still visits me in my dreams sometimes!

Well, My Siberian is a rescue. He had been hit by a car and spent many months at the vet. I think he may be a little retarded from the accident, so he has been hard to train and house break. He is, however the sweetest most loving dog. If you want to know any more feel free to write.

I used to have one years ago. I thought it was cool that he looked just a wolf when I unrolled his tail. His name was Cuddles. I hope that you do not live in a tropical or southern region because those dogs do not belong down there. Remember where they originate from, after all. Mine was a good dog and very affectionate.

Please check out this site for a ton of great information on Huskies... it is the AKC parent club (the main club) for the breed. You can learn alot about your new pet as well as make contacts with people who have been raising and breeding huskies for many, many years.

the were dogs originally bred as working dogs. they require LOTS of exercise, but are very intelligent and loyal.
they can have black, red, brown markings or be pure white. because of thick coat they are able to withstand -58 degrees farenheit.
hip dysplasia is a common health problem, but is fixable.
prefer cooler enviroments.
