OH cool i have the same hairstyle and color,and i go to high school too. I have bangs.
Umm don't put it in a phony tail, just let it down and straight so it looks silky. There was this test in our school for guys. And 87% of the guys prefer girls with long straight brown hair.

Why not wear it out? Long layered hair is very pretty, you should want to show off those layers.
If not, put it in a nice big bun.

DEFINITELY straighten it. Everyone likes that sleek look on a girl; scrunching and curling are hairstyles for variety, but not for important days like this one. Also, here is a tip: with straight hair, long, straight eyelashes are a must-have. It makes you look thinner, older, and much more sophisticated. layered hair,ot supposed to be tyed up ion a scrunchy,it is supposed to be shown off! first use a brush and gentle comb you hair,best for layered hair,straighen them.then add a nice pin,or clip,or briad some group of hair,then add add a funky rubber on,and use makeup to make you pop!

Leave it down but have big wavy locks. Down's always the way to go. Make sure there's no frizziness and use a serum if necessary.

I would take a round brush and blow it out straight to give it lots of body that should help you or go to a hair stylist and he/she could give you some tips.
