Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas. Passive tags require no internal power source, whereas active tags require a power source.

Radio Frequency IDentification.
It is a micro chip that houses the ability to contain a number or information that is stored on the chip. When an RFID reader is passed near the chip it emits the signal to release the stored information. The radio frequency of the reader provides the energy to the chips capacitor which then is projected back to the reader and the stored information is read.

The plus is that it is small and can be embedded in the epidermis layer of the skin of animals, and people, whether in the nap of the neck, or in the hand or forehead. Then merely passing by the reader will provide the information that is stored on the chip. Such as a credit card number, or SSN or medical information.

The bad part is, that your whole life information will eventually be stored on the chip and then anyone with the proper reader can access the information from you. The effect would be to remove all forms of payment for the convienence of not having to carry money in all forms. If the RFID wouldn't work you will be without. Plus is can be used to tag children at birth, and you could be tracked anywhere in the world by satellite. Privacy is out the door. In effect those with authority to control the finances of the world will use it as a means of control over you.

Radio Frequency IDentification. the small theft tags on retail products are RFID's they emit a radio frequency picked up by the scanners by the doors on your way out the store.they low power emitters. thats why you must pass nearby one to set it off.the industry is working on ones powerful enough to be scanned from a fartherer distance with individual frequencies. you would then be able to scan a delivery of products in a semi truck and know every tagged item in the truck. what catzpaw said is true also, and a bit more technical too.with that said , you decide the good and bad points.
