I stick to about 3-4 dollars a tooth. I've heard kids getting 10.00 I thought that a bit excessive?

There are too many great answers to pick from.
I think I got the 3-4 dollar amount because that was the price for a pack of Yu-gi-oh cards LOL.
My daughter lost her tooth last week and brushed it for the tooth fairy.
I loved the one where the daughter thought she was better off keeping her teeth.

RULE OF THUMB FOR A ROOKIE TOOTH FAIRY!!!!!! EVERY TOOTH IS WORTH A DOLLAR PLUS THE DIFFERENT LOSSES TACKS ON MORE $$$ !!!!! NOW, LETS GET INTO THE ADD ONS..... WAS THERE PAIN WITH THE TOOTH LOSS IF SO ADD 2 DOLLARS. FOR ANY TOOTH PULLED ADD 2 DOLLARS. WAS IT A FRONT TOOTH ADD A DOLLAR IF IT WAS TWO FRONT TEETH GIVE THE KIDDO FIVE BUCKS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO HEAR THAT DUMB SONG ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS OVER AND OVER. A MOLAR THESES DAYS GO FOR ABOUT 3 BUCKS AND IF THEY HAVE A CAPPED TOOTH ADD 3 BUCKS BECAUSE YOU KNOW THE PRICE OF METAL HAS GONE UP. IF ITS A ACCIDENTAL LOSS GIVE THEM A ADDITIONAL 2 DOLLARS. THEY WORLD HAS CHANGED SINCE WE WERE KIDS IT'S MORE COMPLICATED MAKE IT FUN FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE. NOW IF WE COULD ONLY CAPITALIZE ON GETTING THE MONEY BACK AS EACH TOOTH COMES BACK WE WOULD HAVE SOMETHING GOING FOR US PARENTS. GOOD LUCK HONEY

WOW!! That's a pretty rich tooth fairy. The tooth fairy needs to be careful giving that much or the kids will come to expect it. Yes, it's special, but it's only a tooth. Not a whole lot to earn that much money. Save that for rewards for school or a job well done. As far as $10 goes, that's more like a monthly allowance. Our tooth fairy gives $1 a tooth and that keeps the little one happy. It's just the excitement of finding something under the pillow and knowing that new tooth is coming in.

My children didn't have a tooth fairy but I think the this will work anyway. I pay on the condition of the tooth. The worse the tooth the better the buy pack. I've paid anywhere from 1-5 dollars a tooth. I found it gets my boys motivated to brush and even floss!!

Well funny thing you asked this my daughter is wondering about when the tooth fairy comes and what she will bring. For some reason my daughter believes that the Tooth Fairy will leave her coins under her pillow. I just thought that was so cute when she told me that the tooth fairy leaves coins under kids pillows. So I may just end up leaving Quarter's under her pillow maybe 3 to 5 dollars in quarters for her first tooth and the tooths following I'd leave her a dollar in quarters. But thats just me. Thats crazy to be giving 10 dollars I'm not that rich.

Yikes! $10????? I don't even give the $3 to $4 you give so your kid is already lucky!
For the first tooth we give more and if it's a traumatic one when it comes out (like a lot of blood). It's usually $2 or less per tooth here, depending on what the fairy happens to have on her that night. A lot of time she'll leave a $1 bill, a quarter, a dime, a nickle and a penny. It's usually a little different each time.

I told my daughter that the first tooth is $10, the second is $5, then rest is a dollar or two. The first tooth was special because she was soooo excited and tried to stay up to see the toothfairy. I put the money in a decorated envelope w/ a note...she loved it.
The second tooth was just the $5 and she was disappointed that she didn't get a letter w/ it....go figure.

I guess the tooth fairy is cheap at my house. My kids get $5 for the 1st tooth, and $1 for every tooth after that

i have to agree with the previous posters... the first tooth is worth $5 in the gold-colored dollar coins... every tooth thereafter is $1 unless there are extenuating circumstances. for example, my one son had to have to of his baby incisors pulled at 6 years old, as his secondary teeth grew straight up behind it and never disinegrated the root properly for it to become "loose." these 2 were worth $5 in the dollar coins apiece for the sheer trauma!
the only time the kids ever receive the coins is from the tooth fairy!
