The ultimate symptom of life is from the presence of the soul, the symptom of the soul is consciousness and activity, the nature of the soul is to be forever active.
The material body is host to the eternal, immortal spirit soul, which is the symptom of life. "Life comes from life", the material body is a vehicle for the soul.
So the soul is eternal and never dies and the body is never really alive, it is simply a biological machine that is operating due to the presence of the soul or self.
