My dad used to police in downtown Chicago. At one point he was arresting a gangbanger for one reason or another, and when asked where he lived the guy responded "At the corner of 32nd street and my mama's house!"

Oh, and my dad's partner also accidently shot him at one point! The partner wanted to show off to my dad how quick he could pull out his gun and said "Hey Wayne! Look what I can do!" BAM! Shot my dad in the chest. Thankfully, 30 years later my dad is no worse for wear and has a pretty amusing story to tell.

I've been a cop for only 15 months, but already have lots of stories. But definitly, my best one was the 2 million $ seize of drugs after a noise complaint.

To make a long story short, we got a call on the night shift for a guy dropping is weights on the floor. When we got at his door, we could hear him destroying everything in the apartment ( 5th floor). He wouldn't open. We knew the guy was either on drugs or having some kind of crisis. He said he was waiting for us with a bar in is hand. I was expecting to kill him. When we finally got in, we couldn't find him. I looked if maybe he had jumped over the balcony and killed himself, but no. We got that call on the radio saying a crazy guy was on the street half naked with a bar in his hands just about a corner from where we were. Other cars went there but never found him. As we started looking in the apartment, we found so many bags of ecstacy. We also found 50000$ cash. The downstairs neighbor came and said that the guy we were looking for jumped from 5th to 4th floor, balcony to balcony, went through his apartment ( because his door was open ) and ran away. At the end, we were told everything was worth 2 millions. My best shot so far. But never heard from the guy. We still don't know if he moved to an other country or got killed.

The best job, you'll love it

My favorites are the drunks and edp's (emotionally disturbed persons). For some reason, I get along with them really well....

Had one guy with a special codename he actually signed on his driver's license. Gave me a code name too because he liked me. Wanted me to pose for a picture with him in front of a restaurant.....Secret Service ended up paying him a visit. Had another lady, was listening to music without headphones, was on her way to Cuba (from Florida mind you) to take a basket weaving class....Then there was the guy that insisted the commie's were stealing kids to brainwash them for something or other. Half the time our dispatchers didn't get correct info or only partial info, so you're told some guy wants to talk to the police and make a statement. Then he starts talking about commie's stealing kids and brainwashing them. And you're just sitting there thinking WTF???

I know those aren't funny, but sure breaks up the day.

After six months on the job you will have enough stories to fill a book. You'll never forget your first arrest, first pursuit, or any of the weird things that happen.

One time we were pursuing a stolen car and lost sight of him for a few minutes. He just seemed to disappear so we turned around to try and see where we lost him. On the isolated stretch of road we had just driven down there was suddenly a guy hitch-hiking that wasn't standing there just minutes ago. Obviously this was our suspect so we arrested him. His only response was, "How can you arrest me when you don't even know where I ditched the car?"

I love stupid criminals.

My dad was a police officer in the 70's in north queensland and brisbane. he always talks about it as a really good job. you do have to deal with some troubling situations at times but overall it will be a great experience for you.

PS. The only time he ever used his gun was to shoot an air conditioner!!

Got a bunch of them, but this is a new one... DH calls me tonight - he has arrested an obnoxious woman for terroristic threatening. Says her husband assured him that she had no ties with Al Quida - she was "American born".
