My son is almost 4 years old. He is a normal and healthy kid. He does not like to talk. He is very smart but hardly talk. He remembers things really fast..but mostly physical things. We try to teach and talk to him a lot. But I am so worried. He is attending a special program from the school district two hours per day but i am affraid that will not help him much. Anyone has the same experiences? What should I do?

My cousin's little boy went through the same thing. The classes help alot! He is now 7 and while he may not end up with his own talk show, he does communicate nicely. Some just take longer. Love him, be patient and he'll become exactly who he is supposed to be.

Peace,
C

My daughter didn't talk until she was over two years old (mainly because there were four other people to get what she wanted by pointing at it), don't fret when he wants to talk he will; my little girl is a jabber box now but she does go to speech class because of some of her letters she has a hard time pronouncing give it time an extra class won't hurt try and see if they have a 4-k program or early childhood program. Good luck and it's wonderful you r concerned for ur son and his well being. It will be ok!!!

Well , I do hear ya for my son at 3 was not talking very much of course his grandmother keep on me about it and like any mother I would tell her there is nothing wrong with him. Lmao Well, I finally decided that ohh I'll just get him tested so she would get off my back about it well it was the best thing I did. The place I took my son is in Texas Is called The Child Study Center they do all the testing on a sliding scale as far as pay they do not put the kids on meds there but it is an options which if you choose would have to go to your regular doctor for meds and they will consult with your doctor. My son was listed as ADDHD but was only on the meds one yr and very low dosage.just to help him do the move into junior high. He was in speech classes on one on one with the teachers and it was un believable what they did with him was making leaps and bounds 1st month. So get on line look for the programs for children they are out there most don't even know about them.

Most times they grow out of it- I believe my 12 year old hasn't stop talking since around 3 and a half. Try pointing at his mouth and ears when he points at something- see what I'm getting at?

I can think of two things :

1. Continue talking to him no matter what.

2. Encourage him to talk. Like for example rather than giving him what he points to , you can ask him to use his words.
