What if an EMP went off first?

Yes but remember what happened in Katrina the people basically killed each other if there was no electricity or communications do you think the country would kill itself?

O yes I saw Red Dawn It is kinda what sparked this question.

I watched a show "Future Weapons" on Disc. and he said that a single nuke placed centrally 400 miles above the U.S. would create an EMP big enough to make the entire country go black.

Im sorry but I had to laugh when I saw this question. Who would be that freaking stupid to invade the U.S. - Even China isn't capable of doing that. Sure people always say "Well China has a billion more people than the United States". And my answer to that is "Sure they may have a billion more people, but how in the hell are they gonna get all of those people here"? // lol see my point? Besides China has no Huge-*** ships anyway to carry those people here and if they did, the ship would be sunk by a sub of the U.S. // Also most Americans own guns - what like each household has probably at least 1 gun if not 2. So I would say we are pretty safe here in the U.S.

Very low unless it is from Mexico. No enemies share a common border with us and an invasion fleet would be spotted before it got anywhere close. ANs Emp would have to be very big to disrupt everything in the US or there would have to be a lot of them. But even then the military has hardened facilities that can withstand an EMP.

From a defensive point of view. USA would be very easy to penetrate initially. But, ANY success is highly doubtful.
Just look at the various terrain features, large skilled population, expansive geography, technically advanced military etc. The only successful invasion would be from our own forces with the aid of the UN Forces.
So, unless Martial Law is declared and local police dept. and national guard aid the adversaries, then highly unlikely.

Its getting higher with each advance in transportation and weaponry. We can no longer count on the ocean distances to stop someone from attacking our shores.
An Electromagnetic pulse would knock out all but the most heavily shielded milatarly communications.
A neutron bomb would be a better choice as it would only kill living things and leave most of the infrastructure intact for immediate take over.

the only concievable way for an invasion to work, is basically having every other country pitted against the US. our standing milita is even more powerful since citizens can bear arms. even with an EMP blast, the nation could get its electronics up and running again fairly quickly. it would take an attack using the manpower of china and india weilding european weaponry.

Very very slim. No one would attack the US in a military style invasion....we are too populous and gun crazy....we may have terrorist attacks...but nothing like we are doing over seas where a country would send troops to our soil!! We are too powerful and hardcore for that. Where would they fight? Alaska? North Dakota? We have too many cities not to mention we are Americans...the general public would not sit idle by and let foreign solders take over our cities and neighborhoods....look at the border issue right now. when was the last time a Mexican attempted to pursue a terrorist attack....The US Will never have a military style attack on our soil!!!!

on a scale of 1-10, I would say -3. Nobody would have the balls to invade the US, who would invade a country of gun wielding people. We have a great training movie, Red Dawn. If you think someone can take over the US, watch this movie.

Better chance to have a snowball fight in hell. The US is a super power and an attack on the US in the form of another army is also an attack on Canada. We would be there fighting too. and our people can get the job done too. What we lack in numbers we make up for in training. Our war record speaks for it self

on a scale of 1-100000000000:
zero.

The only thing that can produce an EMP (so far) is a nuclear explosion. Think of it like a chess game with a huge friggin board: you have to put pieces into position to attack before they can attack. We could see this before it happened.
