Jiu Jitsu

I would probably do Kempo because I do Karate now.
Mauy Thai is more like kickboxing with the knees and is more for sport.
Ju-jitsu is a great ground art. I don't care for wrestling so I don't think this is for me.
Krav-Maga is a very effective art that does interest me. I would take this if I didn't already have the Karate background.

If you have an art already then try to get something that compliments that base art. If not then go for the one that interests you th most.

There is no better or best martial art. Trying to compare arts is like comparing painting styles. It has a lot of subjective points, and there's really no way of knowing. However, what we do know is that arts taught poorly, are completely and utterly useless. Thus your main focus should be on finding a good school, not what art is best. Google a list of schools in your area. From here, compile a list of arts you feel are the most interesting or that you like the most. Once you have this list down, go visit the local schools of the style of your choice. While visiting these schools, make sure the instructor is knowledgable and that the school is not a McDojo. Once you have visited all the schools in your area and you have a good list of schools, decide which school you like the best or which one is cheaper, or closer, etc. As Dr. McNinja stated, most Krav Maga schools here are watered down. Krav is meant for the fastest possible kill to anyone armed with a weapon and should only be coupled with IDF training. Unless you have personal connections and/or know that the art is being taught by a truly certified instructor, do not take it.

Muay Thai and jiu jitsu are good.

You got to be very caution about kenpo, too many frauds out there.

Krav Maga is pretty decent but from what I hear the way they spar isn't too great but from what I can tell, their style are very realistic. However Muay Thai or jiu jitsu studet will most likely win due to sheer amount of experience with real live sparring.

Here's a example of how each style train or fight:

Muay Thai training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C4mrpi7JTo

jiu jitsu training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7cnIx1_7yc

Kenpo training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4XpMWticVI

I cannot find any clip on Krav Maga worthy showing :-(

Now ask yourself which one of those you think is more realistic and will teach you better, allow you develope instict, and gain more experience, learn how to fight against someone who is stronger, faster, or sneakier than you?

Now lets see some fight clip:

Muay Thai fight (also some training...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=einZ010-cb0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjhg5W5Rzd8

jiu jitsu match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP8EYTZwMxo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42Xtg1EDV-M

Kenpo sparring:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWEqkoDgm5E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FevFq0-SRdA

Now look at them and ask yourself who do you think use more of techinque they actually train in to win the fight and spar? Who seem to know what they're doing in spar? Who seem to be doing technique flawlessly and better?

Well I guess you can answer thsi for yourself. Hope this help.

If you're choosing between Muay Thai, BJJ, American Kempo, or Krav Maga.....why not just Mixed Martial Arts? It seems like a logical conclusion....

Standup....Thai boxers are no joke. I crosstrain with some of those guys on a semi-regular basis and they're beasts....I love it, they take as well as they give.

BJJ is good, but it's limited....TOO much focus on groundwork, but what they do on the ground they're the best at.

Krav Maga....I've never to be honest been too impressed. The mentality is kill or be killed with them, and while I respect that.....there are entirely too many manuevers that place the recipient blatantly in the path of harm...just not smart.
Viscous, nasty, balls to the wall stuff.....but it can be stupid at times with survival mentality.

Kempo, I'll hold my opinions on that to myself. I have nothing positive to speak about it.

i suggest going Mixed Martial Arts, all of those cover different ares, they were specialized towards more specif ares. And only proper mix of those guarantees your dominance. Although even knowing little and being able to do it good, will give you a better chance when it actually comes down to it.

On the other hand if you consider just one of those styles to put your self in better physical shape, shake of few pounds, i would suggest either jiu jitsu or mui thai, they suceed better at it.

they're all great arts, and all compliment each other well.. but i advise anyone studying martial arts no matter whether it's judo, bjj, muay thai, karate, tkd, kung fu or taijiquan, to learn krav maga. it's literally a life saver teaching gross motor skilled manuvers. krav maga compliments any martial arts and is even great for those who don't do martial arts. it's all about natural reactions and using those natural reflexes in a defensive, protective way in order to survive a potentially deadly situation.. and though i find each art that you mentioned a wonderful style of martial arts, krav maga is more of a self defense system as opposed to a martial art. it's something you can learn and retain in just a few sessions, as where a martial art is something that usually takes years to become profficient in...

jiu jitsu
We have begun working on jiu jitsu in addition to our striking art. It is so much fun and I have gained a new respect for grapplers.
Also, the concepts I am learning from grappling totally enhance my striking skills and if someone locks me up I have training to fall back on.
A good jiu jitsu trainer should present primarily grappling techniques but they should also teach basic blocking and striking.

You should be balanced, the hallmark of a good martial scientist is adaptation to ever-changing circumstances.

Ju-Jitsu and Mauy Thai together. If I could only choose one then I would choose Ju-Jitsu, because most fights go to the ground.
