Without a shadow of a doubt 22 would win. The americans rely too heavily on technology to win their wars. It has been noted that the average British squaddie is the equivalent of 3 Delta Force soldiers (America's elite!!). The Sunday Mail ran a headline after 9/11 that the SAS could survive on a tube of toothpaste for a month, yet the americans wouldn't invade until there were street lights and burger king (It was the Mail, but draw your own conclusions).
To sum up there, why is it that whenever George decides to invade any small arab country, he always phones Tony and asks for the SAS and 16 Air Assault (The Paras)?!

I'd put my money on the SAS. As a Regiment they have the greatest experiance of the two, of both years and deployments. Therefore, the training and expertise behind them is greater.
However, I think you were thinking of Delta Force, the US equivelant to the SAS. The SEALs are the US equivelant of the Special Boat Squadron, SBS and Commandos. They specialise in beach landings, raidings from sea and ship attacks. So, therefore, have little CRW training in CQB situations per se.
There is no such thing as a three year limit to being in the SAS. There is only a minimum age restriction, followed by a forceful retirement at a certain age unless you reach a certain rank. Therefore, a erson could theoretically be in the SAS from the age of 18 until the age of 50+. Just thought I would clear that up.

The Special Air Service (SAS) with their hands tied behind their backs. They're nails. The very best in the world. Better than SEALS any day of the week.
Thing is, they're the ones who trained the US military in counter-terrorism and CQB, but I'll bet they've kept a few tricks for themselves.
Oh, Krishn P, They'd beat the USMC troops easily, too. the SAS are the premier Special Forces squadron in the world.

"Curt" states, incorrectly, that you can only serve 3 years in the SAS. If this was true then how did Andy McNab (now an author) manage to serve 9?
The SAS are the benchmark that most foreign countries base their special forces on. Delta Force is nearly identical to the SAS structure.
The difference with the SAS and most other special forces is the fact that SAS soldiers have brains, they must be capable to think on their feet. Which is why they command so much respect worldwide.
This said, their role in conflict is predominantly intel gathering. The stuff they do is counter terrorism and covert ops.

I guess this one is a US versus UK question. Another post is quite correct in that the SBS (special boat service/squadron) is the equivalent of the navy seals - and they good!!! very good!! I served in the RFA and have been fortunate to see them in action. I have also had many dealings with the US Navy and they are not as professional as the RN and never beat similar numbers of British forces in excercises while I was serving. I hear that this is also the case in excercises for air and land forces but I cant corroborate that, but I do know that during WW2 US army airforce crews were undisciplined and the US army was considered easier opposition than British and Canadian forces by the Germans - its really a question of numbers and the fact that alot of US kids join up to pay for college education - they never really expect to have to fight - so mind set is also a factor. In WW2, Eisenhower stated that the US could afford more casualties and I guess that it still almost definately the case!!

The SAS would slaughter the NAVY SEALS,as you might already know the SAS are the best and that's why army units from all over the world come to them for training and they have the most experience

SAS would if they are as good as they say. But NO the SAS does not have more combat experience, at least not on an individual basis . You can only be in the SAS for 3 years. SEALs aren't considered experienced until after 3 deployments.

probably the seals, but they are not the american equivilent of the SBS, the SBS would kick the f**k out of the seals, go round to s**g the seals widows and still have time for a couple of pints before the pub closes.
