I have had a 12 year old baby sit my child. Of course it was my niece. It is best at a young age to babysit for family or friends with little ones. This will give you references and recomendations to take with you on more serious jobs. I started babysitting when I was 12 also. Some feel this is to young. But many kids these days are more mature for their age.

I'm guessing 15 or 16 at least. Adults don't trust 13 or 14 yr old to babysit their kids anymore.

To babysit my 10 year old son, you would have to be at least 16 years old, so you can drive him to a hospital if something happened.

each state, or country has their own laws about that. check the laws for your area...even some town have their own laws on this.
in my state...that a child can be left unattended by an adult is 12, the age of a babysitter much be a least 13.
personally, i would never let ANY one that young watch my children ever!! my boys are 10 and 8, my daughter is 6 months. i won't let my sons watch my daughter until my sons are at least 16 yrs. old.
it all boils down to you local laws, and the personal preference of the parents.
