The church quoted the Bible in the reasoning, saying basically that women should be seen and not heard. So, we fire 85 y.o.ladies?

Here is the verse in question:
1Ti 2:12 And I do not allow a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence.

"According to Paul, women must be learners, and are not allowed to be public teachers in the church; for teaching is an office of authority, and the woman must not usurp authority over the man, but is to be in silence. But, notwithstanding this prohibition, good women may and ought to teach their children at home the principles of religion. Timothy from a child had known the holy scriptures; and who should teach him but his mother and grandmother? 2Ti_3:15. Aquila and his wife Priscilla expounded unto Apollos the way of God more perfectly; but then they did it privately, for they took him unto them, Act_18:26. 6. Here are two very good reasons given for the man's authority over the woman, and her subjection to the man, 1Ti_2:13, 1Ti_2:14. Adam was first formed, then Eve; she was created for the man, and not the man for the woman (1Co_11:9); then she was deceived, and brought the man into the transgression."

It was and is a matter of authority. Women are not to have authority over men in the Church. That is the way God set up the Church. Women are not to be elders or teachers of men. If you don't agree with it, then take it up with God. His universe, His rules. My problem with this is that this policy wasn't in place from the beginning. It shouldn't have been just added. I think it was rather cold of them to all of a sudden pull out this verse and remove this person from her position. Either a church believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God or it doesn't, but don't switch mid-stream and remove someone from a position that you didn't have a problem with up until now.

She has no grounds to appeal. The bible says women must be silent in church and have no authority over men. The bible is the Word of God.

As for all these 'Christians' who are outraged at the priest for taking what the bible says seriously...well, now we know who is not going to heaven, don't we?

I wish more church leaders would think about the ramnifications of their actions. It was worse that they specifically made a big deal out of her being female in her notice of dismissal. The good old boys sure are making it hard on the younger, more open-minded Christians in the world.

What she was actually fired for wasn't even that bad. She was teaching tolerance, as I understand it. That must be some messed up church. I pray they figure it out.

All the woman has to do is go to a different church, it just sounds like this minister doesn't really know how to minister.

Well I guess the guy was new to this church and wanted to make a big splash .Frankly I think he stepped in a pile of it .
And if I were a member I would be looking for a new place to worship .

the church didn't quote anything, the priest that fired her did...he's human and doesn't understand the meaning of what the bible says...obviously...i personally think its bull...he just wanted his 15 minutes of attention by the public...he's a sad excuse for a priest and makes all the rest look bad

Oh, *wow*. That poor woman. I'll bet it was a volunteer position, so there would be no financial repercussions, but obviously she felt strongly about doing this work. I hope her former students leave, too. I'm sure there are lots.

I don't think that being a sunday school teacher is the same as what the bible calls usurping authority over a man. I think it was unfair to her and her students and that it is using a misinterpreted part of scripture. My opinion.

I bet the minister came onto the the old broad and then she threatened to report him. Or more likely because of her age, she walked in on him doing something he should NOT have been doing, and he had to get rid of her. Good thing he fired her instead of killing her!
