The first 24 hours, clear cool liquids or ice pops will probably help soothe her throat. The doctor will give her something to help the pain, hopefully not too strong. After that, she will definitely let you know what she can tolerate. It will be OK. I've been there with my kids and it is scarier for us than it is for them.

If the tonsillectomy is done with laser, the pain is minimal, as the incision is cauterized at the same time the tonsils are removed. Most tonsillectomy's are now done with laser and have been for 15+ years.
Your doctor should give you this information. Not strangers on the Internet. If he's not talking to you, or you're not asking him these questions.....you need to talk with him. The hospital should give you a list at checkout...and it's usually done as outpatient now.
My daughter only had tylenol (liquid) for a week after the surgery, and she was a drama queen. It'll probably just be liquids or soft foods...like jello, ice cream, pudding...no fizzy drinks...nothing acidic like orange juice for the first few days. She was back in school after a week.
It really was a simple, painless surgery...not like when I had it done.

My four year old daughter goes in next month to have her toncilles and adnoids out the full recovery will be about 2 weeks but you should try to keep her away from other people who may be sick for that time being because an infection can happen and it could get really bad I know because I had mine out when I was 19 for those two weeks have alot of popsicles on hand because that will help to freeze the pain.

The pain is bearable, just like a sore throat. It lasts for about a week. Lots of ice cream and popsicles, soups, and soft foods should be fine. Also, she can take some Motrin if she is really uncomfortable. Good Luck!

Keep cool things in the fridge/freezer. It's supposed to be a lot easier when as young as your daughter. I had mine out at 22 and my throat killed me for several(3-4) days. Just do Jello, popsicles, fudge bars, etc.,for a couple of days and then move up to soft foods, shakes, mac & cheese, pudding and the like! :-)=
