I treat it like a date. I envision Jesus sitting there waiting for me like a friend. Then, I think about what I would feel like if any other of my friends were sitting there waiting for me and I didn't show up.
I know it's a guilt trip, but it works for me.

I carry my Bible with me everywhere I go. I have a large bag that I tote around with me ... doesn't matter where I'm going ... to the store, to work, to visit a friend(s), etc. It's really easy to steal moments when you are prepared to do so. Now, there are smaller Bibles that you can take that are much more convenient than a larger one ... but I suppose that I have developed a bit of a relationship with my Bible ... not that I treat it like a person or anything, but I do have it ... and when I'm stuck in traffic, or waiting in an office, or have a little down time, I may pull it out and read it ... or ... I also have a little journal that I keep ... and in the journal are some scripture passages that I found that have touched me in a very special way. Sometimes I'll pull that out, and I'll spend some time memorizing those passages. My jounal is in a much smaller book, which I also carry around as well.
I'm big on accountability also ... I find that if I don't use self-discipline, then I need to be held accountable by someone else. But I think with this ... if you have it with you, then you would probably be more inclined to read it, or memorize scripture, or pray, etc. Hope that helps.

First thing when I get up, I read a Psalm and a chapter from Proverbs before my morning prayer.
In the evening, I read my usual bible reading.
Some who find it difficult to read every day find a bible reading schedule helpful. You'll find a number of them available on the internet and sometimes even in the front of some bibles.
And pray for God to help you find the discipline. It's amazing the things that you can do in your life if you just ask for His help.
God Bless,
Tammy

I think we tend to see it as "work" and therefore avoid it. It is the tendancy of humans to avoid that which is hard or not pleasurable. You need to see the Scriptures for what it is, God's love letter to you. You say your husband was just deployed, I assume you mean sent overseas by the military. When he writes you a letter, do you put off reading it? No, you open it right away because it is message from your beloved. Take the same attitude with the Bible, it is a letter written to you by the One who loves you to most.

I know, why don't you read me the bible every day, well tell me what it says, and what it means to you, from cover to cover, I have never read it, but maybe it could help us both out? I just hope you do not mind me asking some questions along the way.
and for what ever it is worth I wish the best for you and your hubby.

I read first thing in the morning before anyone else is up. It's quiet, it's a good start to the day, and the time is always available.

Just do it first thing in the morning. When you drink your coffee or whatever. It is a habit which over time takes on more meaning until you would feel cheated if you didn't find the time.

that is my biggest weakness as a christian. the best thing i could suggest is that if you have a small bible study group you could join, that might help you. they say you are supposed to take some time everyday to dedicate just to God, to pray & read scriptures...there are some websites that can send you daily scripture..then when you get your e-mail, open it & immediately go to your bible for quiet time...http://www.crosswalk.com/faith/devotionals/
you can sign up for a newsletter...hmmm. maybe i will take my own advice!!

Set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier and use those 15 minutes for meditation and bible study.
A little everyday is better than none.
