Drinking wine is all about drinking it with confidence. If your friends are making fun of you for drinking wine, it is probably because they are intimidated. Wine is both an art and a science, and exploring the thousands of different types is what makes it fun. If your friends don't like wine, you might ask them why. Chances are they just haven't had the right type of wine. There is no right or wrong (arguably white zinfindel) and wine ranges from super sweet whites to lip puckering reds. The trick is to find what you like.
Wine has a great cultural significance and is making a large comeback. In the past 5 years, the market has been flooded with less expensive, yet drinkable "table wines". These are generally under $10 per bottle and a perfect chance to share with friends. One suggestion would be to pick up a few different types (pinot grigio, chardonnay, merlot, shiraz, etc.) invite your friends over and show them why you like wine - its meant to be fun! Best of luck to you!

Why don't you try a more upscale wine tasting bar, that way you'll be around a lot of others drinking wine (and some drinking beer).. You might be able to make some friends who will enjoy a glass with you, not make fun of you for drinking it.
hell I'm drinking a glass right now.

well to be honest with you.. i would find that sexy if i saw a woman drinking wine in a bar.. a guy? well.. maybe a tad weird, but i wouldnt say anything cuz to each his own.. I personally like wine at home cuz it would breathe too much for my taste being constantly opened & closed for all those customers, while at home it would only be opened when i wanted a glass every now & then.

Never had that problem and I drink wine whenever I want. I don't just order whatever the house wine is though. I do ask for a list.

It all depends on what wine you're drinking. Please don't drink white zinfidel !!
Ordering a house white is ok but at least ask what it is.
What winery makes your house chardonnay? etc.
Go to some of your local wineries (if you have any where you live) and learn about different wines (merlot, shiraz, sauvignon blanc, etc).
Find out what makes a wine "buttery", or makes it oakey.
There is so much to learn about wine that I've been "studying" it for 20 years
and I am still learning !!
(ps: I volunteer at a local winery in Maryland.)

Drink what you want. In a couple of years all of your beer-drinking friends will probably be drinking wine.

I believe wine cost more than beer. Besides, wine is classier and it's stil alcoholic drink. Be proud drinking it!
