The spine of the fetus has not hardened into what it will be once the person begins to stand upright, and is therefore still malleable. It needs to maintain an almost amphibious flexibility to sustain life in the aqueous womb.

Their bones haven't hardened yet. This will not happen until 3-4 years old(I forget-somewhere in there). They still have everything they need.
OR maybe they are afraid the abortionist is going to get them so they are curling up into the smallest ball possible.

Maybe it's because their head's are so disproportionate to their bodies.
Probably though... because they're looking down, trying to figure out what the heck that tube is coming out of their little bellies.

cuz they're bones arent strong like ours.. also, its a very small place the uterus, so.. you havta be all scrunched up in there:P Fetus' are so cute!! at least my son was in the ultrasound:P
