There is a widespread misconception that Muslims obtains
from eating pork because pig is sacred and is worshipped as God
in Islam. It is inconceivable that there are people whose
mentality could go down to such a dismal low as to entertain or
fabricate repulsive idea such as this. No intelligent, refined and
self-respecting person would ever imagine himself deifying pig,
an animal which lives on offal and pigsty. This pernicious
misconception is the product either of the malicious intent to
malign Islam and the Muslims in general; abysmal
ignorance;whimsical intent; or utter disregard or violation of
the Biblical prohibition. Muslims' abstention from pork eating is
in adherence to the Qur'anic Law which states:
" Forbidden to you for (food) are: dead meat,
blood and the flesh of the swine and that
which hath been invoked the name other than
Allah. "
Holy Qur'an 5:4
Such prohibition is also found in the Bible:
" The pig also because it is a splitter of the
hoof but there is no cud. It is unclean for
you. None of their flesh must you eat and carcass
you must not touch. "
Deuteronomy 14:8 ( Bible)

In early times it was forbidden to eat pork. Pigs eat all kinds of
garbage and pork contains high amounts of bad cholesterol
that create hardening of arteries, heart disease. It's a no-brainer.
After a time, it is said God gave permission to eat pork.
Did you know it says that eating anything with a shell, crab, lobster, is an abomination? I think that is in Leviticus or Dueteronomy.
Maybe there were reasons for this at one time. Maybe God just
had to say go ahead so people, after multiplying for generations, would have enough to go around.

For the same reason both Moses & Jesus refused to eat it. God commanded Muslims not to eat Swine meet. God also commanded Moses not to eat or even touch the Swine meat as in the following verses in the Bible: LEVITICUS 11:7-8 "and the pig, for though it divides the hoof, thus making a split hoof, it does not chew cud, it is unclean to you. You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you. "
The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. ." If you eat filth you have the effect of filth.

It is considered unclean. However I did some reading in "The Lost Books of the Bible" and it gave an interesting reason. They stated that it was not just the physical attributes of the pig but the attitude of the pig. Once it was fed and content it became very uncooperative and stubborn. The thought was that once God has blessed you do not become as the pig - in attitude. Anyway just another thought.

Leviticus, Chapter 11
1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,
2
"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: Of all land animals these are the ones
you may eat:
3
any animal that has hoofs you may eat, provided it is cloven-footed and chews
the cud.
4
But you shall not eat any of the following that only chew the cud or only have
hoofs: the camel, which indeed chews the cud, but does not have hoofs and is
therefore unclean for you;
5
2 the rock badger, which indeed chews the cud, but does not have hoofs and is
therefore unclean for you;
6
the hare, which indeed chews the cud, but does not have hoofs and is therefore
unclean for you; and the pig,
7
which does indeed have hoofs and is cloven-footed, but does not chew the cud
and is therefore unclean for you.
8
Their flesh you shall not eat, and their dead bodies you shall not touch; they
are unclean for you..

I dont know (the reason) about God prohibition;maybe the animal is meant for cleaning the environment and not for food;to me pork is cheap stuff, food for the poor and pagan too.
