Puppy Linux will do just great for you. I have it on a laptop that was made in 1996 (75MHZ no less) and it is amazing what it can do. Download it for free it is VERY small (about 80megs) and have everything you'll need.

If your computer is an older model only capable of running Win 95, you probably won't be able to effectively use Linux. A full Linux install needs around 700MB of disk space for installation. There are smaller versions out there but they don't offer all the features of the full version.

I'd suggest two Linux versions; either Ubuntu or Knoppix. They both have "Live CD" capability. You don't need to install the program on your hard drive, you can run it off the CD. That way you can see if your computer will support the program. If it does, you can use the same CD to install the Linux.

Hope this helps.

All can be downloaded as "live" CDs.
