"About two-thirds of illegals pay Medicare, Social Security, and income taxes. All pay sales taxes and property taxes (directly if they own property, or, more likely, indirectly via rents that reflect property taxes). And since 1996, the only public funds illegals can really access are for emergency medical care and primary and secondary education (and only 10 percent of illegals send kids to public schools). "

Becca, noone can "just apply to be a US citizen". It's not 1800, or 1900s anymore.
Now you either win the Green Card Lottery(random pick) or you don't.

Maybe those are the 2/3 of the whole illegal population that have actually applied for citizenship. Which means maybe 2000 illegals are going about it the legal way.

They shouldnt have access to anything American if they are not on any legal papers.
I think that their countries should support them while they are here in America (in terms of medical and education).
I could care less if my numbers are incorrect, I know a couple million are here illegally and then some. And as far as the report you just gave goes, it does not make any difference in the economy.
I still pay a sh-- load of taxes for medicare and social security. Do they? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NON NON NON NON NON NON NO NO NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO Gracias

I pay taxes too and I'm not above the law, you cannot deny that the USA is soverign and entitled to make it's own immigration laws like every other country on the face of the earth.

I'm glad your reading these stats, you should follow the Congressional hearing more closely.

You will never convince me that in California alone, illegals cost the state 10.5 billion a year. That is not a lie. Your taking facts and narrowly construing them.

Of course they can pay property taxes - with 15 - 20 people living there how hard could it be? With bringing down property values, with increase in court and law enforcement doesn't make up for it.

Immigration Now, Immigration Tomorrow, Immigration Forever
Reason’s guide to reality-based reform.

The nation has been swept up in a battle over immigration reform all year. As Congress and the President struggle to enact new legislation, the debate so far has been characterized by an almost complete lack of reference to history, economics, and basic research on the matter. Reason seeks to enrich the discussion, first and foremost by raising the question of whether there is, in fact, an immigration crisis in the first place.

We’re also happy to illustrate this special section with images from late-19th and early-20th century political magazines such as The Wasp and Judge. These images showcase not just the animus against but also the ambivalence toward newcomers that native-born Americans have long expressed. What you were on is a blog. A blog is basically someone typing their OPINIONS about a topic. None of what you state can happen. Why?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAVE NO INS OR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS! THEY ARE NOT DOCUMENTED, SO THEY DO NOT FILE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO FIND THEM!

And if they don't use our public schools, then why do they fight to bring their kids here? To allow them to grow up without formal education? How is that a better life like the one they speak of???

They cost us money, pure and simple. Regardless what you want to believe or the person authoring the blog says, they do. They cost us money that they don't pay, and money they use when they can't afford to pay their way and feed their families. If THAT is not a better life, I don't know what is.

Maybe citing a "reputible" source might be something to consider. I'm not saying a major news source (but that would be good), but sighting some other form of accurate research, not something someone just wrote. I can write anything and pass it off as fact is what you say by citing this website as "fact".

from the article you pointed to "This isn’t just idle guesswork. In October 2005, the National Immigration Forum and the conservative Manhattan Institute surveyed 233 illegal Latino immigrants in Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago." Wow, out of 233 immigrants 2/3 pay some taxes. I guess the couldn't find the millions here in Texas that don't.

SERIOUSLY, YOU POST A STUDY INVOLVING 233 PEOPLE AND YOU THINK THIS IS AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF THE OTHER 20 MILLION?

TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE, ARE YOU KIDDING?

I read it and it seems to be a collection of personal entries. There is no source given for your numbers on schools and taxes. It is contrary to data from LAUSD I have seen which indicates otherwise, so frankly, I don't believe it.

However, even when poor people pay all taxes, they pay very little of what they cost in services and education. That is why we limit how many can come.

and also all white people who live in America today are direct descendants of IMMIGRANTS who migrated here or even worse took this land from the natives and made it the nation it is today. just because you were born here does not make you better than people who want to come here just luckier! so everyone needs to get off the stop the immigrants thing cause this land is our land this land is their land and this land was made for all of us and no one directly suffers because someone is living in this country ilegally.
