I say you need to talk to him and let him know how you feel that you are going through something real in your life. If not seek counseling and maybe he can go with you and try to understand you. but don't let him hold you down from anything. But don't make a jump that might hurt you either. Take your time and think it through.

there is no such thing as him "allowing" or "not allowing" you, it is a free country and you are free to do what makes you happy, what gives him the right to do what makes you happy and forbid you from doing the same. Tell him what you want to do and why it is important to you and if he doesnt understand that and doesnt want you to follow your dreams then he isnt that great of a guy anyways.
