It means there are people more interested in talking than in listening. And that there are people who ask loaded questions because they are more interested in pushing their own shallow and self-righteous agenda than in actually taking the time to understand people who are different from them. Are you one of these people?

Very true.

Here's another one to ponder:
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
John 8:32

I find it strange that the verb is "know", and not "seek". It would make more sense to me if it were:
"And ye shall SEEK the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

The Bible wants you to believe that if you just study it hard enough that you will know all truth, or at least all truth that matters. I think we've learned enough since the writing of the Bible to know that this is false.

So, here I am airing my opinions. I am confident that many Christians here will think I have proven myself the fool. Yet I have spent time studying religions and the Bible, but also spent time studying philosophy, science, mathematics, psychology, and neuroscience, seeking knowledge and truth. I've found some along the way. I'm feeling pretty free, but I know that as soon as I stop seeking, I'll lose my freedom.

Proverbs 18: 2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. It means what it says. A fool does not like to understand anything but he still wishes to discover himself.

Proverbs 18:2 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

2A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

Reference: Definition of fool.
Fool in our modern perception would relate to such terms as idiot, moron, stupid, feeble minded or simpleton. Indeed dictionaries give these as synonymous terms generally describing someone considered as "lacking in good sense or judgement" but is more strictly applied to someone. "mentally deficient to a given degree" or, "mentally deranged" implying a lack (or loss of) reason or intelligence.

According to the definition of "fool" I would say a fool has no delight in understanding simply because they lack the intelligence to appreciate the fact that they understand something.

I think the meaning of this scripture is that a fool's only delight in understanding is the feeling he gets in his heart in knowing he has accomplished something.

God Bless You.

I think it's true. Don't you know someone who is always saying what he thinks, most of it wrong? Someone who doesn't research things, but draws his own opinions no matter if he's right or wrong? Someone who doesn't listen to reason, who just thinks everything that he says is right no matter what, and you're wrong?
This is the kind of person that a "fool" is, and this is the kind of person the Scripture is talking about.

A fool loves to talk but could care less about learning.
Ok so I'm a fool for answering this question.

This is one of the few passages in scripture that involve the concept of thought over all else.

Of course, Abrahamic definitions of "thought" really just mean "listen to your superiors."

I think that a lot of people in yahoo answers would qualify for being an example of that proverb.

I think it is wisdom. Since it is the word of God-you know what that means-I think we have our share of fools here.

it is self explanatory. A fool will not benefit from wisdom because he will not live by her commandments and would rather talk about what he knows not.
