I've dealt with bad allergies from a couple dogs. There's certainly no easy answer. But the few things to do are... 1. Find out what the allergy is to, and avoid it at all cost. 2. Give some Benadryl while you figure out what the allergy is, and until the reaction goes away (it takes a while after getting away from the allergen to notice improvement). 3. Give them a spoonful of yogurt daily to fight yeast infections that they are prone to getting when they have allergies.

Don't give him anything without talking to your vet first...human medications can kill him if given incorrectly. If he has been disagnosed with allergies, your vet can give you the proper dosage for an OTC human medicine, or prescribe something to help. If he hasn't been disgnosed with allergies, you really need to get him into the vet to see what the problem is. There are many things that would have similar symptoms. If your vet can't see him soon, they should be able to give you some advice of how to make him more comfortable.

Benadryl is an oral anti-histamine that will help. But check with your vet as to the proper dosage for your dogs weight to be safe. There are many different varieties of topical ointments, lotions etc. for "hot spots" etc., but again, check with your vet for toxicity before using. Most are relatively inexpensive. PetAlive.com is a website that offers natural/holistic products to relieve the itching. It would also be helpful to find proper treatment if you know what your dog is allergic to, i.e. certain pet food ingredients, grass, fleas, etc.

The best thing is 1) to find out what your dog is allergic to 2) to find out if it is really allergies causing the problem so a vet visit is in order. They will advise you on what to give your dog.

My vet gave me some type of gel stuff to rub on the itchy parts and it helped alot. Also they have allergy meds to give your dog. Go to a vet not Walmart.

one of my dogs is a scratcher and got some meds from the vet, but depending on the allergies, benedryl might work, but do some research on the weight/dosage ratio. good luck!!

Check with the vet first, but may be just dry skin. Fish oil pills work for that.
