Has anyone met on the internet and then in person, what about safety issues?

I am in Canada, he is in Alabama, he has sent a ticket, but Im worried about personal safety issues...

precautions:
never give ur personal info out RIGHT AWAY. chat/email. if you do give out personal info dont start w/ ur address,& home number...take the other person's number if u call dial *67 to block ur number if ur not ready to give out ur number...
during the "dating period" if u get personal info on the person RIGHT IT DOWN. if u meet up meet in a public place. let someone know hwere u r going/what time,give that person the info u have on ur date. & of course write it down @ home somewhere. when ur on the date, & get a chance to see ur dates car..right down the license plate number of the car got a camera phone take a pic. be aware...take good look at ur date JUST IN CASE U MEET A CRAZY PERSON..u can vividly describe the date..WAIT A WHILE before letting this person know where u stay/work etc etc.

I knew someone, Canadian girl incidentally, who met a wealthy lawyer in Los Angeles this way and ended up marrying him. It was only after she had moved to L.A. and lived with him - in quite a beauiful big posh house - for awhile that his mask slipped and the nightmare began. She spent many years disentangling herself and the divorce caused a lot of emotional and financial damage. Take all the precautions you need to if you really want to do this. Bur remember, you may be worse off if you actually have a great first meeting and he seems normal and really wonderful and you start dating, despite the distance; whatever you do, don't forget how it all started. You won't have been the first woman he's met like this.

And BTW it is interesting that you are going to him, when obviously you are the more vulnerable one, being female. Why is he not flying to Canada to see you? I would ponder that carefully. He obviously has the means to do so, and if he's that interested, you should tell him to hop on a plane, and see you on your turf. If I were you I would draw the line in the sand now, and tell him he has to come to you; don't make excuses about it, either, tell him the reason is your safety. If he's a good guy and the real deal, he will understand and visit you.

I dont have a good story to tell you.. so I think it would be best I kept my opinions of meeting from the internet to myself. However just a word of advice. . dont trust anyone. Meet in a public place and make sure a friend knows where you will be and give him/her the address and make a time in which you need to call them or they will call 911. I am sorry.. but the 2 times I met in real life was a disaster. I know there are some good guys out there.. I just didnt have luck with the ones I chose. Good Luck. And most of all becareful. Since he sent you the ticket, you arrange for a separate hotel room. Then there is not a demand on, yo know, (sex). Fly during the day, so you have ALL day to get to know him.(safer, too.) I would put out the money and do a check on his name. I have done it twice. but I wrote for months, called each other, and IM. IF you have all his personal information, IE phone number, address, last name, give it to a trusted friend and casually mention that to your penpal. something like, I gave your number to my best friend in case there is an emergency at home...

In this situation, DON'T DO IT! Have you been to Alabama before? Do you have friends or relatives there that you can stay with? If your response is no to all of these questions, don't do it. You don't know anything about this individual and you have only communicated via internet (I am assuming you have never spoken on the phone with him). It is too risky.

Well girl, allot would depend on your age. Suggest meeting in a public place first to feel him out. Then go with you gut instinct. If it does not feel right, its not. I am a male and have done the same thing and had a great time with the girl. But then I am not a rapist, kidnapping, killer. I would also suggest he come to you so that you can walk away and go home.

i haven't but u should have asked him to go to u first :) but if u have the ticket already, then, maybe you'd like to give a try..just make sure that anyone knows, your parents maybe, about where you're going, give them all the details, like the address and the phone number of the guy..

I've met two guys off of the internet....
BUT I made sure they weren't lying about who they were and stuff, I was very careful and they ended up being exactly who they said they were and everything. so be careful.
