It should be both educational and fun... try Blokus. Talk about a fun game that teaches spatial skills... and anyone can win once they learn how to place the pieces. Try it. It's been a top-selling game and has won numerous awards.

Fun and educational and there are quite a few out there that do both. Candy land teaches children their colors and how to count (to at least two) and teaches them how to follow rules. Chutes and ladders teaches counting and following rules. Any form of Memory works on a child's memorization (something they will use a lot in rote memorization). This list could go on forever, but I won't. The children learn best when they are having fun.

I LOVE these board and card games:

30 seconds
Uno
Pictonary

Good fun to have with friends and family and it keeps the brain active (30 seconds is brilliant for general knowledge)

I think Monopoly is a good game. It is fun and at the same time you have to use a bit of common sense and strategy. The children's version is fantastic.
