Okay,
I learned by buying the Berlitz Spanish book (now you can buy the cd/dvd) and by watching spanish tv, memorizing ten spanish words a day and most importantly, interacting with Spanish speaking people daily. You can now do this on chat forums!
Oh yeah, I used to make up scenarios in my head imagining I had to say a particular phrase or words to someone and then I would figure out how to say them in Spanish.
--A good thing to do is memorize sentences at a time. I ended up becoming fluent in about two years. good luck!

Omigosh - tell me about it! I think that highschool is probably the worst way to learn this language. You need to become more involved with it - encourage yourself to understand the language by checking out spanish magazines, music, even books - you know, looking up spanish children's books may not be a bad idea to learn the language. I mean, that's how english people are taught, right? Just make yourself more exposed to the culture and the language itself, and I think you'll find yourself becoming more educated. Hope I helped!

Watch the Spanish channel, go to Spanish lab, make flash cards, and listen to Spanish music. In other words, the best way to learn is immerse yourself. I was there once and had only a C the first semester (I needed 6!) You can do it! Bueno.

find a native Spanish Speaker and have her teach you. That's the best way to learn in my opinion, talk with someone who knows the language.

work with mexicans or go to mexico
after a while you'll learn it for good, if you're young enough. The language center of the brain lessens with age.
