If you had the opportunity to have a custom made wedding dress, for less than the ones in the store, would you be interested? I have some ideas on the backburner for designing wedding dresses with handknit bodices.

Definitely! But your biggest problem is going to be marketing - you type in wedding dress on the internet and thousands of things come up. Plus, you're only one person. You might think about getting in to some specialty shops. Call and make an appointment to meet with store owner / manager. If your dresses are coming in less expensive than ones in the store, they will still have room to mark-up and keep it an affordable dress and they can do your marketing for you. Just make sure they are made well and don't get discouraged if you get turned down. You want the right store that will promote your creations properly. I think it sounds lovely! Good luck!!!

It would depend on the reputation of the tailor. Its hard to have a dress custom made b/c there is no way of knowing exactly how it is going to turn out. If you have a wedding dress made and it takes 6 months and its finished 3 weeks before your wedding, and you hate it, then what? You're stuck!

Absolutely! I've been married twice (uh), and both times I had my dress made. First time, I was young, dumb and pregnant. A close friend made an off white gown for me. It was really pretty. The second time, I was older, unsuspecting, and deceived. Someone made a beautiful pink gown for me.

Don't let my misfortune deter you from getting married. My failed marriages had nothing to do with my dresses being custom made. It was just my choose in men. I am alot wiser now! ;)

Yes, I looked into that for my gown. But after talking with a couple seamstresses, it was going to be 1.5-2 times as expensive as the lacy, heavily beaded and detailed premade dress I was looking at...

You could look for something like this (or start one!) in your area
http://www.creationsbridal.com/
It's a shop that provides the fabric and notions, and matches up customers with independent seamstresses.

At this point I definitely would not pass up the chance to get a beautiful dress made for me especially not passing up on cheaper! Is there a website??

It's what I plan to have done when/if I ever get married. The dream dress in my head doesn't seem to exist in stores.

Sounds lovely; I'd much rather have something unique than a conveyor belt, cookie cutter, just like everyone else's dress - good luck!

Yes, i'll prefer MTM than off the rack wedding gowns...but in Singapore MTM seems to be much more expensive...
