i've always had bad posture, and my neck starts hurting when i'm on the computer. Note: i'm leaned over a good bit cuz the keyboard is a ways away. so, not helping the already bad posture. Might have pulled something. I dunno....

Bad posture can easily cause neck pain. I used to work as a Registered Nurse and I have similar problems. You need to find a computer table that allows you to have your legs under the keyboard. That will allow you to sit up straight and not have the neck pain.

The other thing is to correct your posture all the time. I don't know how old you are, but I've had bad posture all my life and I'm 63 y/o. I have a lot of back and neck problems that I probably wouldn't have if I would have corrected my posture when I was young. I've been trying to correct my posture for 5 years now and it is extremely hard to do at my age. The younger you start to do this, the easier it is to do and the more benefits you will get.

Even now, when I remember; to not hold my head forward, stand or sit up straight, keep my shoulders back and down, etc., I feel the benefits immediately and for as long as I keep the better posture.

Yes of course ! Neck pain is usually caused by injuries and sprains associated with the muscles, tendons, and ligaments around the cervical spine, but it can also be caused by a cervical herniated disc or cervical stenosis.

The neck muscle pain can be caused by the following neck muscles becoming tight:

Scalene muscles (three pairs of muscles that help rotate the neck)
Suboccipital muscles (four pairs of muscles used to rotate the head)
Pectoralis minor muscles (a pair of thin triangular muscles at the upper part of the chest)
Subscapularis muscles (a pair of large triangular muscles near each shoulder joint)
Levator scapulae muscles (a pair of muscles located at the back and side of the neck).
