tax in new york

New York State Sales and Use Taxes--like everything else in New York--are very complex, almost confusing.

Generally, the combined state and local taxes within the 5 boroughs of NYC is 8.375%.

There are exceptions, such as lower state taxes on motor fuels and no state sales taxes on clothing purchases under $110. but other local jurisdictional taxes still apply for these purchases. Unprepared food, prescription, & otc drugs are exempt from all state & local sales taxes too.

Every quarter the sales tax rates are revised, to keep the money flowing into the welfare state's coffers in Albany. Welcome to the the tax-and-spend mentality of a liberal blue state!
