Do you remove the masking tape before or after the paint is dry?
What happens if you do the wrong thing? (My rooms are already dry, the tape is still on the walls.) I have 2 more rooms to go.

You don't want to leave the tape on too long. As soon as the paint is fairly dry - especially what is on the tape, remove the tape.. Believe me I have left it on too long and up comes the tape and the paint.

I agree with what others have said about not leavig it on "too" long, pulling up a little test section, and using a razor. If you've gotten a lot of paint on the tape, sometimes there's a tendency for a noticeable sized piece of paint to come off the wall when you pull off the tape. To prevent this, first, take care not to get a nice thick coat of paint on the tape, but if it's too late for that, you can still pull off the tape and salvage your new paint job. You'll need a blow dryer, a razor, and a friend. Have your friend direct the hair dryer (medium heat) on the section of tape you're trying to remove to slightly warm and soften the paint. Meanwhile, you use the razor the cut the paint/tape margin while gently pulling the tape away.

Take the tape off when the paint is dry. If you use a good angled paint brush and take your time, you don't even have to bother with the tape. Just cut in around the ceiling, molding, and windows with the brush and the rolling goes quickly after that. My husband and daughter just painted our 12 X 22 living room yesterday. Masking tape may remove the finish from stained molding.

if it is just trim that is taped you will be OK just remove it slow and angle the tape away from the wall you can also use a razor to score the paint on the tape before you remove it.

take tape off just before paint is dry other wise you may pull some of the paint of you have just done

pull up a test section where you really cant see... if it pulls up, use a razor blade to slice it nicely at the edge. Good luck.
