How long is your dog been acting like this? Has he been acting very fatigued and wanting to sleep alot? Is he on a monthly medication for heartworm and flea and ticks. The reason why I ask is because if your dog not playing and if he's fatigued and not on any flea and tick meds regularly he could have a tick on him. You can do a thourough examination of his coat and check for a little not like bump. They are grayish in color. If you find one you can get a pair of tweezers and grab the tick and pull it out all the way and clean the site with peroxide. Or you can take a cotton ball and soak it with liquid detergeant for about 30 seconds on the tick and when you pull the cotton ball off the tick should be on it...just throw it out or flush it. I hope your dog will be ok. Just don't panic.

Is his nose hot or cold? Wet or dry? If his nose is hot and dry, he has a fever. How old is your dog? If he is an older dog, he may just be having an off day. Is he eating well? Is he going to the bathroom okay? Is he breathing rapidly (not panting, breathing thru nose)? Are his eyes clear or cloudy? Is he just lying there, not wanting to move? If any of these apply, he may be sick. Give him a day and if he is still lethargic, call the vet.

How do you know your dog is sick? Does he have a fever? Runny nose or discharge in his eyes? Diarrhea? Coughing sounds?
Without any sypmtoms of being sick, maybe he just doesn't feel like playing as usual.
Dogs have bad days, just like you do. So unless there are signs other than not playing as usual, maybe a vet visit is in order anyway.

It could be the heat, or maybe he is just having a lazy day. As long as he is eating, and drinking normally he is okay. Maybe watch him for a couple of days and see if he is the same.

Dogs aren't as active as they get older..., but if your dog isn't really considered old, then take him to the vet asap!

ya probably is he not eating? my dog just went through a cold (i think) and he wouldn't eat and ate pine needles to make himself throw up. he also didn't bark as usual, but totally got over his cold in about 3 days!
