Every major religion supports it. Animals fast but humans (and yes we are animals....if we weren't, animal testing on drugs, etc would be absolutely pointless) and like all other organs in your body, your digestive track needs a break. So if you think fasting is good, tell America why. If you think it's bad, tell me why.

I'm not sure if religions support it for health benefits. It might be to guide people to better survival.

For ex., Russian Orthodox tells us that we are supposed to fast 40 days in early spring (exact date is calculated by Church), besides some other fasting periods. Although I don't know for sure, I'm inclined to think it is done so that people don't slaughter the farm animals that have made it through severe winter. Of course it made a lot of survival sence back in the days....

I've always believed in "eat if you like, don't eat if you don't want to." Nothing wrong with fasting, as long as you don't overdo it. Some believe fasting is an answer to all health disorders, I don't.
