Heavy protien, (buy some rice protien concentrate at a health food store). Lay off the empty carbs (white bread/ white rice) in favour of good carbs like vegtables and whole grains. Avoid fats if you can, pop a multi vit. daily, and hit the gym, do strength training, not cardio. (note: cardio's healthier, but you'll get more musscle with strength training).
For food choices and recipies, read Superfoods Rx. Healthiest book I've found.

Work out a fitness schedule, start slow, and build up. You'll lose weight and gain muscle by doing a variety of exercises, like jogging and weight lifting.

It doesn't matter what your starting point is. Just start lifting. Check with your dr, then get to a gym and talk to a trainer. They will make sure you develop good form so you don't get injured, and can give you ideas. You can go to a trainer once or twice, or one or two months, get the hang of each exercise, and then go out on your own.
You can also go to bodybuilding.com and check out every kind of workout there is.

Lose the extra baggage. lol you should run and lift weights. not just lift weights. I do what I call power lifting. I dont do any sets or reps. I do as many lifts as I can as fats as I can. But, ive been lifting for awhile now so that might not work for you.

Weight Training is the only way. See Bill Phillips website. Google the 6 week body make-over. It is amazing. You will sculpt your body in 6 weeks. You may not be a supermodel, but will be on a very healthy road to one. :)
