Everyone below is wrong, well i think one answer was alright.

You can take cigarettes, I do it everyday, sneaking lighters is like stealing candy from strangers, just put it in your pocket,( Hardly ever rings off, the plastic ones, peice of cake) but legally you cant do that.

as far as matches are concerned, you are allowed 4 books of matches, NOT the "strike anywhere matches" those are prohibited.

I go through security about 20 times a day, 6 days a weeks literally.

Cigarettes aren't a problem, they sell them at the duty free. I have no idea about matches though.

Cigarettes are no issue. You are allowed matches and flint lighter.Plastic lighter and butane lighter are a no-go as they are like a time bomb in event of rapid de-compression in flight. So do note this.

For US domestic air travel, check with both the TSA and your airline. You should know that all flights within the 48 contiguous states are all non-smoking. Here's the TSA link to prohibited items...it's updated regularly as the list changes, so it's always a good idea to check it right before leaving.
